There is ANOTHER yellow 3 digit rider in 6th. Something's fishy. Oh that's when yamy was yellow too and they changed color so not to be confused with the much slower Suzuki bikes.

I loved morning practice, it was wet and rutted but had great traction. In 84 that track was gnarly, but for todays talent level and bikes it wouldn't pose to much of a problem. Suicide Mountain was tricky to climb on a 125 2 stroke because it got so rutted and dry, if you didn't get a good drive, life was rough. But a 250F would double it no problem and I'd bet that the 450 guys would triple up.

The int track was killer, I can proudly say I jumped the Magoo double and the wedge, the wedge was a slightly down hill double that was hard to do back then.

Fake news....

That pic clearly shows a 3 digit rider, surrounded by 1 and 2 digit riders. In 3rd. And he is on a Suzuki of all things?

That pic is clearly photo shopped. Everyone knows 3 digit guys, and Suzuki's, are too slow. (;

I was there that day, I was just a kid but will never forget those memories.

Would be shocked if the SoCal NIMBY lefty lunatics let it be re-opened. But let's all hope for a miracle.
Someone told me that bike was real fast.

Sometimes the worst thing for a track trying to open is publicity before it gets approval to open.

The timing of the hearing to discuss potential reopening is interesting now that Prado Raceway, about 20 miles to the North, is getting closer to the green light for opening. If both tracks opened somehow by the grace of some moto-god, SoCal would have some great choices without having to drive out to BFE.

Agreed! Fingers crossed!

I lived in El Toro in 1977/1978 and raced at Saddleback in the 80 jr class, CMC. I saw Mike Bell, Jeff Ward, Ron Lechein, Ricky Johnson when they were just teens. Used to see Jody Weisel there all the time. It was epic. The heart of motocross.

I remember reading david bailey’s story about saddleback in his monthly story in racer x back in the day and being enthralled with the history of the track. Always wanted to ride it myself after reading that write up.

Well, I rode LACR today and a guy parked by me said that there was talk of it between a few guys on Saturday.
I’m not holding my breath, but I’m hoping he’s not mistaken.

It’s crazy that land is still undeveloped after all these years. I guess it would be difficult to slap some condos or an Amazon warehouse down since it’s on the side of a hill right? I’ve never been there. It’s not being used for anything so let us ride!

It’s county land/was a landfill but I believe it’s no longer used as such. They brought back “saddleback” to some property on Irvine lake grounds when I was a kid, I rode that variant a few times, if I had to guess that’s what would happen again as I doubt that lake will have water in it ever again.

Interesting…. Well, I’m hoping he can pull it off, assuming it’s a real thing. I’ll ride there every Sunday 😎

So does the state as a whole, but we’re not done fighting yet.

I rode Saddleback 2 a whole lot. Would go after High School when the lights were on. Loved it, that big double was epic. I think my memory is painted with rose tint, thinking about it, it wasn't that great of a track, blue grooves... but it was close.

I currently live in the area and my son goes to elementary school very close to the lake. I would be very surprised if it went thru. People complain about the Harleys and loud cars going up and down the road. Cowan Heights, the neighborhood right up there, has multi million dollar homes.. People will site driving down real estate prices (which we kind of need).

Another point is the traffic up and down Chapman Avenue, its already bad... I know their are other ways to get there, but its the main route. That street would be even more brutal.

For the uninformed, what am I looking at here?  Looks like a giant playground! What year and is it legal to off-road? Something is keeping a lot of trails clear, not only the foreground but the background too. How much of this is the original Saddleback?

Damn, was really hoping this thread was bumped because of new info on the track reopening. No chance of it happening?
