It was tossed around a lot in the past, and seems like a really appropriate subject right now. If I was Feld I'd throw the change in right now, it's the same for everyone. Just re designing promotional material that has all the wrong riders in it would cost a bunch. It wouldn't have solved KR94's problem, and it might not help this year if the injuries turn out to be too severe, but in this sport that eats it's young, it would seem to have a place. The Championships would be closer, and seasons wouldn't always be over.

Hell, may as well throw out 16 of them and just make the last one count. Well, unless one of the top dogs are injured for the last round in which case we could pic the one race that counted. Oh wait, even better. Only races that are run when everyone is healthy count toward the title.
Personally, not that I want things to happen like they have, but I have a raised Spock eyebrow as to how the season will go now. I think I’m even more stoked to watch the series, only because I think we could have multiple winners and a tighter points chase.

If they want to add it in for next year I personally wouldn't mind, but you can't just throw it in because some key guys are out.

Could maybe see 1 but 2?? come on man

Horrible idea.

I'd rather see they make the tracks easier. Maybe that would make the racing closer. Less injuries. I dunno.

Anything but artificial stuff. It's already kinda lame that the points are weighted.

No. It's a professional series there shouldn't be throw aways.

Hmm, I can see I have a bit more splainin to do.

Factories are not usually on my list of stake holders I have any sympathy for, but when you think about the rider's contracts being paid while they have no rider, and the team expenses and bike costs that go on even without your top rider, you have to imagine they would be all over the idea.

Riders, the most important stakeholders get a shot to recover from injuries rather than realizing their season is shot and just waiting for the outdoors. When you realize how few entries there are to fill the gate, they need every rider they can get. Riders that miss the start of the series may be able to join later, whether injured or struggling to get a team together. Right now there is ET3, MM25, MS27, JH72, JS7 Huh , RD5 Silly , JB19, DM18, TB69, NS79, AC80, MB58, HM48, AP 981 and more that would benefit from this rule so far and we are on the 2nd race.

Fans would benefit from having riders return to the series rather than lay up and prep for outdoors. The top riders will still have the best scores, but at the end of the season you would still have more riders with at shot at the title.

It beats the heck out of a playoff or shoot out as a way to tighten the series.

Sorry, can't do it, and I'm a chase/change supporter. Consistency has to be part of it.

Nope. Everyone has to face all the same tracks and part of being a champion is the ability to finish all the races.

It's already a shit show with some rounds being "Triple Crown" events and some not.

You can't implement a rule like that midseason just because some title contenders crashed and got hurt. Screams special treatment for "the" guys. If you crash...tough shit. If your bike has a mechanical....tough shit. The unknowns are what make racing great. We now have three riders with three different come back stories and I think that is pretty damn interesting.

Jezuss christ....friggin kidding me right??....the pussification of Moto continues....why can't they all win...kumbaya....

Kind of like they do in the motocross of nations, where they drop the worst moto score. Just dropping two moto scores over 17 rounds? Cool I’m all in, but they have to bring back the two stokes Woohoo

No. NHL doesn't drop games in order for a team to make the playoffs so they have a chance at the cup. PGA doesn't drop a round so you finish higher up in the standings. F1 doesn't drop a round because some drivers have crashes or have mechanical issues.

Shit happens, deal with it. Crashes, mechanicals, health, etc. all play a role in a championship. The best man/team wins it's that simple.

Mid season... no.

So... with the current super amazing points system we have, that I am sure some math major came up with after running through many different scenarios, we are lucky enough to go in to a meaningless Vegas the majority of the time. So with some throw away rounds you could have someone sit out the last couple rounds and still bring in the championship.

So I would say... just adding throw away rounds... no. It's not enough.

Never a fan of throw away races. However F1 did it forever.

The Chase would at least allow guys that were hurt early in the season a chance to come back and compete for something meaningful over the last 5-7 races.

But depending on how you qualified for the Chase in Nascar, Musquin would be locked in because he won A1, while Tomac would still need to win a Qualifying race to get in.

I think this is where the chase format would help more. If they did 10 or 12 rounds to qualify for the chase, Tomac and Marvin could probably make up enough points while missing 3-4 rounds to make it in. At the very least, it would be exciting seeing if they could make it in.

Don’t take this as me pushing for a chase format. I’m actually good with the current format, but it does kind of suck the top 2 guys coming in are basically done now. At the same time though, it makes things interesting with Anderson showing some speed, and the comeback of Roczen. If Anderson racks up some wins early, Kenny gets back going around half way, then Tomac and Marvin comeback battling for wins, it will really shake things up down the stretch.

The Des Nations has had a lot of different formats over the years. Drop no finishes, drop 1 finish, and even drop 2 finishes. For awhile it was changed almost every year in an effort to have parity in the event. (Ie: Make Team USA lose). The best team usually wins, drop or no drop.

Interesting idea but no way.

Watching a rider make the best of a bad day shows the character of a champion.
Fight every race, every lap - all season long.
