Out of curiosity I was trying to find somewhere that the payout is listed for SX and MX. Anyone have any idea?

A few years ago, I was talking to a rider and he told me that the payout has not been changed since Bob Hannah raced. Now if that is correct, I dont know. And also this was a few years back so they might have altered the prices to keep up with inflation.

Either way you look at it, they still pay crap.

The AMA has changed the payout but lets just say they have not kept up with yearly inflation.

As I recall the AMA did an increase when the Arennacross races paid more than SX!

no one will tell you and you will never find out. MX/SX is too professional to act like a professional sport! The joke's on us. We fans need to just shut up and enjoy our superstars in their bon jovi wigs and their "super-pumped" cookie-cutter images. All hell would break loose if we were to actually know too much about these "athletes" whom we claim to follow.

Exploited?
They willingly pay to participate, hard to label them as "exploited"

By the way, look up the purse money for MotoGP or F1
Let me know when you find those numbers

about 10 years ago supercross paid the winner in the 250 class $5,000 and the 125 winner got $2,000.. thats race winnings.. not bonuses and whatever else they got per win.. im sure its higher now.. its nothing compared to nascar and other sports

When SX brings in millions which im sure it does i would say the riders are exploited. They pay to enter and most struggle financially just to get to the event to participate. I would like to think the industry would take care of them better than they do since they are the ones that fill the stadiums. Privateers are what make this sport go around not the hand full of Stewarts and Reeds.

I have a couple friends that do several of the nationals and finish in the lower half of the pack and when they get a $150 dollar paycheck i would say thats being exploited considering there are 20k people there that pay 50 bucks minimum to enter and drink and eat $5 hot dogs & $8 beers and buy $20 t-shirts all day long.

You know as well as i do the privateer riders are not paid what they should be.

MotoGP, F1, Nascar, NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA are all compensated very nicely for their services.

No one pays to see the privateers they pay to see the Stewarts and Reeds. the privateers are just the guys that make you see how really good guys like McGrath,RC, Reed Stewart are and the amount of talent they all have. People pay to see talent. I can see normal at any track in the country on sunday.

So when someone does something to entertain by acting out Guitar Hero, you don't like it. And when someone acts like themselves, but they're not exciting by your standard, you don't like it. What DO you want?

Yea, that one article was through Houston. I am going to run it all year for the remainder of the SX's and throughout the Outdoors.

It seems to me that every other motorsports are making a change to everything to cut costs. AMA has done nothing to curb costs in supercross and motocross. It is not only the lack of purse money, but the lack of cost cutting measures.

So what your saying is first and second place are all that matters, and third through 40th are joe local ( to put it in your words) and nobody pays to see them. If that was the case then Reed and Stewart need to run their own "show" staring themselves and sell out stadiums all over the world.......They could be like rock stars.....

Gee why wouldn't that work, maybe its because people pay to see the other most talented riders the world has to offer. In case you don't understand I am talking about third place through 40th. Show some respect.

Having a Stewart vs Reed 1 on 1 race would draw more paying customers than a race with the bottom 20 riders at a national.

Oh yeah I would pay to see stewart walk away from reed in a 1 on 1 race.....woooohoooo how exciting....give me 3rd place through 40 battling it out anyday. Your argument sure doesn't hold water.

Again if what you say was true the sx promoters could make way more money eliminating everyone but James and Chad including the fireworks preshow and all the other "useless stuff" that people pay to see.
