Just getting back into this after a 10 year break... what are the best boots for the buck??? Looking at SIDI's and A-Stars, also checked out the Gearne boots.

Any recommendations?

Also, just for the record... I haven't decided which team I'm gonna go with this year... so you all can start the silly season rumors on me too!! :-)

Every time I think I'm going to buy myself a pair of Sidis, (the most comfortable boot I've ever tried on), I inherit another pair of Alpinestars from my son, (most of my gear is hand-me-down from my oldest son). So, there you have it. I wear Alps, but if I were spending my own money, I'd get the Sidis.

I have not been happy with Alpinestar lately, I have used tech 8's for years and loved them... I just bought a new pair and they don't buckle up right. It is hard to explain and I will try to add a picture later. The front doesn't over lap the side, and the front digs into the inner-liner, it's almost like they don't have enough material to overlap properly! I thought maybe I had a bunk pair but I have seen several others the same way.

I don't know about the tech 10's as I have never worn them so I can't say anything bad, but I’m done with tech 8's!

If you haven't ridden for a while, you might want to look into non-bootie boots. The booties make the outer shell larger and I find myself accidentally hitting the shifter or brake quite a bit. I use Tech 6/7s, and they're not the best boots in the world but they're OK. And they're not so bulky.

Sidi's, very comfortable and almost everything can be replaced.

Small note, try them on, they are pretty narrow, so if your kinda bigfoot, try them first.

SIDI for sure. If the SR's are too narrow, try the TA's. I have a wide foot and my SR's are a little snug. After purchasing and wearing for a few months I learned that the TA's are better suited for a wider foot. Hope this helps!

I have never tried the new Sidi boots, but I love my tech 10s. They are well made boots that have lasted me three years. Also if you have big feet like I do, the toe box is the narrowest that I have found so you dont have to adjust your shifter up.

I am POSITIVE that all three brands make top notch boots (Astars, Sidi, and Gaerne). There are probably a few other decent brands out there (e.g., Fox) but their boots are probably made by Astars anyways. I recommend one of the big three.

I personally wear Astars and have done so for probably 20 years (maybe longer). I have never tried any of the others because I am loyal to my "sponsors" (yamaha, alpinestars, fox, shoei, oakley). Cool

Thanks for all the responses! I was leaning toward the SIDI's anyway, and this pretty much confirms that decision. I also heard that they were narrow, so thanks for the info regarding the TA's accommodating a wider foot.

I've never worn Tech 10's, but did use to ride with Tech 8's back in the early 2000's. Not gonna get too hardcore and all, but do want to have the best protection available.

Thanks again!

I have a set of TA and SR's and they are just the way you guys described them. I wear thin socks in the SR's and thick ones in the others. The SR sole is also stiffer to me.

This is true. Correct if im wrong but Astars arent made in Italy anymore? I had some tech 8's from 01 or close and are still decent, but I wouldnt buy another set. Quality has dropped a bit since those days.

Personally I would take Gaernes or TCX boots over either Sidi or Alps, but thats just my presonal preference. I The alpinestars wear out faster than any other high end boot.

Sidi's are the best boot hands down. It true when they say you get what you pay for. Mine are 5 years old and just about ready for a sole replacement. I will see how hard it is soon.

My Sidi's are allot more water proof if you ride in the rain, then the tech 8's I have. You even see water and your feet are wet.

Astars are Wayy to expensive for how long they last. I owned a pair of sidis to and they were alright. I've had they same pair of garne sg10s for over 3 years and they have less wear then my friends tech 8s that he just bought at the beginning of this year! I'm getting a new pair of boots this winter, the prices of boots are outrageous now tho

I bought some tech 10's a couple of months ago and the box said made in Croatia. I wore them for 2 weeks, sold them, then bought Sidi's!

Man I remember the day when all people wore were Tech 8's. They were the shit back in the day.

I wish they would come out with a lighter boot. There just all to damn heavy. Hard to walk and it's like carrying around weights on your legs. Maybe Carbon Fiber Boots? That would be sweet. Maybe I'll make some. lol.

Sidi. I would also consider Gaerne or TCX. Since switching to a hinge style boot I will never go back to boots without.

Sidi if you have a narrow foot. Gaerne if you have a wide foot.

Wish I had a choice like that.... Sidi's don't come in a 14. So looks like a-stars for those of us with big feet. Always been happy with my alps.

I have ridden with TCX since 2009 and I totally love them. Go to a shop and try all the boots (TCX pro 2.1, Gaerne Sg 10/12, Sidi crossfire or some A-stars boot) on and see wich one that fits your foot best. I would not bye A-stars if I were you bacause in my opinion they wear out too easy.
Good luck!Smile

Give me AStars or give me injured feet, really pretty simple. great boot, wore it my whole career and definitely would of had more feet injuries if not for them.
