Rough night for the rookies

Of the highly touted, factory supported rookies, Shimoda had the best night by narrowly avoiding being lapped.
Moreau left on a stretcher.
Swoll didn’t make the main.
Supercross is a tough way to make a living and there is no such thing as a sure bet.

I don’t think you shamoda comment was fair. I think he did pretty damn good for his first showing.

Agreed.
Without Hampshire's mishap Jordon Smith would have finished 6th. So a 10th for a rookie is very respectable imo - how old is he, still 16? Or just turned 17?

I said he had the best performance of the rookies and narrowly avoided getting lapped. That was fact, not opinion.

If any sport is working right in terms of talent pool, talent development, and overall competition level, about 50% of nights should be tough for top rookies.

Shimoda’s finish was one position behind Jett Lawrence’s debut finish, and 2 weeks (and no podiums) later there were people who were arguing that he was the best ever for his age.......

I completely agree. I do think it unusual for 2 of the 3 factory rookies to fail to make the main event in their debut.

Jo is every bit as talented as lawrence just a year or so older and years more sx practice /monster cup ect experience than Jett but remember Jett was basically still crapping his pants quite literally all day and night his sx debut and so sick he couldn’t do press day so can’t really compare but I think Jo will definitely improve get there he was very smooth and I think he will be there week in week out and eventually push for podiums on this east coast ... then that’s another whole topic with who’s on which coast and which is the faster coast .

He never actually arrived. This is the second year in a row that he was supposed to race SX, but he has been injured both times. I theory, he would be able to race the last few races this year. Given his SX track record, I would guess the team will keep him out of SX this year.
