The Street Outlaws guys individually sell a similar amount in t-shirts at most of the match races and events they attend. That number doesn't seem far fetched at all for Ronnie Mac.

Let the privateers sell two strokes and signed Chad Reed number plates and you've got a stew going!
Tables cloth pile, right beside the stack of plates? Oh, wait........

Ronnie Mac is more popular than a lot of the top racers in our sport so I think it's quite plausible. For example Ronnie has more of a following on Instagram than the guy who's been winning most off season events this year. He has more followers than the 2015 and 2016 MX1 World Champions combined. Also has more followers than Jeffrey Herlings who is easily one of the most famous racers around.

While some might say that doesn't mean a thing but the reality of the situation is to a lot of companies a large social media presence is extremely important.

Not true. Negative $$ is WORSE than zero.

And that's what a box of T-Shirts with no venue to pitch them is: an expense.

That's when you have to decide if it's worth it? Be honest with yourself, not a fantasy. How many people really know privateers, other than real fans or family members.

If its true, I can't believe they had that many Ronnie Mac T-Shirts with them to sell. 600 shirts is a shitload to haul around for a relatively short event.

Yeah I hate being a skeptic, but 600 does sound like a real stretch to me...if it is true, then good on him.

I agree with other comments about other riders being able to sell their merchandise at SX/MX events, especially privateers

I just have a hard time believing Ronnie Mac signed 600 autographs for free......so selling that many T-shirts for $20 seems even less likely to me.

It doesn't have to be rider specific, just take a look at what Destry Abott and his family are doing with DA8 apparel. They are able to sell their stuff at every Endurocross race, and not every shirt is DA8 specific, they often just have funny sayings or things like that.

Regardless of how you look at it, riders not being able to sell promotional products in a sport so top heavy is just wrong on so many levels.

What’s so hard to understand that each series has an agreement with a T-shirt company that pays them money so they won’t let anyone else sell them too? The riders should form a union, outbid the other company and then sell shirts.....

Wanna be like NASCAR? Let riders sell shirts, take 12% and allow fans to represent their rider. Home court advantage can be elaborated as well with this strategy!

Nothing is stopping them, just can't sell at the races. Kinda like goin in Wal Mart parking lot and selling shit without permission. The boss and the person with the $$ make the rules.

If you’re making 12k I wouldn’t be complaining.

It's a 100 percent true , sold tees and hats until
he ran out . Proof that people would rather support their favorite riders directly

The riders could probably revoke the rights of anyone selling their likeness . If every rider did that , that would be a start .

They said there were 55k in attendance. I find it very easy to believe that he sold 12k worth of merchandise. I also think he better make it while he can as his 15 minutes will be short lived.

Love the Ronnie too, he's great, but I wish he would tame down the above PG-13 stuff.

Sorry, OT.

How much cash you reckon Jimmy cleared the last few years? I'd be he'd like a portion of this sort of sales 16-30 times a year.

It's fucking criminal what the promoters get away with, the riders and teams should have the right to sell they're gear and sponsors product at will.

Of course, no one is lifting their heads up to talk to each other to fix it so nothing will change.

Just think how many jerseys they could sell on race day if they sold ET3 and KR94 jerseys for $75. Even if they only brought 25 to each race something would be better than nothing.

There is a missed opportunity when it comes to Moto related clothing at a mx/sx venue.

Are the team's allowed to sell anything? At a national drag racing event you can buy old pistons, rods etc. Stuff they don't use anymore . Couldn't a team sell throw away stuff each week ? Maybe throw a signature on it as well?

Im not sure how it is now but think its the same..........for a fact in the 90's the rider signed those "rider likeness' rights away at sign up for the event in SX and MX............read the fine printWhistlingWhistling

Assuming $20 a shirt that's 600 shirts. I don't think the $12000 is profit, but total sales.
Very plausible
I don't believe he signed 600 autographs let alone sold 600 shits. Even if he did sign 600 autographs that would mean at least every single person who got one bought a shirt too. You guys who beleive this are saps!!

Its a shame that this monopoly of a structure was built way back when and pretty much sewed up the loophole with “you’ll be black balled if you chose to challenge” (paraphrasing of course)
