Anyone notice Roczen kickstart his bike on the gate in the second moto this weekend? Am I correct in thinking the 2018/9 Hondas have no kickstart?

Its faster with a kick start.

Jeremy McGrath used to run a kick starter on his '95 CR in '96.

The 2018 CRF450R has a kickstart area still in the cases but electric start standard. In 2017, HRC/Roczen raced with electric start but as of this past weekend they reverted the starting mechanism to the kickstarter and removed the electric starter, idle gear, battery, and associated wiring harness from their 2018 race bike.

The 2019, which they haven't raced yet, doesn't have the case area for a kickstarter. It also has a new frame and swingarm.

2018’s have a plug where the kickstarter was, 19’s have different cases. Probably a 18 with a kickstarter installed

The Honda is a pig. Hes probably struggling to get a few pounds off.

If you converted the cr to kickstart and changed to single exhaust I bet it would be more than 5 pounds and enough to feel a difference and effect lap times. And cheeper too if it came stock that way.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan off the dual exhaust on Honda’s. That does seem like an easy way to shave off a lil extra weight by switching to a single can

I have the single exhaust for my 17 CRF450.. cant tell a difference in 5 lbs not to mention these PRO guys have so much talent and training its irreverent.

Roczen and Tomac could top 10 on a Cannondale.

No its not. They are pushing the edge of performance obviously every inch around the track is important.

Thanks for the insight. Any idea why they did that?

well actually in most cases these PROS can feel small diferences.
thats plain to see and hear from them, when they say we made some changes and it made the difference...otherwise why would kr have made the change?

and yes comparing your own experience with them is irreverant or most likely irrevelant.

stick to nascar analysis.

Fake dual exhaust. Batteries and electric start on pure race bikes. Next up, turn signals, horns and Gallagher writing moving violations for failure to signal!

My post is my opinion. If you don't agree with it, I'm OK with it.

Formula 1 would spend a 10 million dollars to drop 5 lbs.

Factory bikes are built from components from the ground up. None ever sat complete on dealership floors.
So could be a 17 frame or an 18 frame - but doesn’t really matter as its all the same. Same with the engine cases.
McGrath ran the 93 frame until 96, Suzuki guys were running the 2012 frame in 2014 as it had more flex.

Uh, no they couldn't. The Cannondale would start spewing oil after 2 laps.

I am sure a magazine did a comparison between dual and single cans on the CRF, apparently the weight difference is not huge at all, the single can is much larger (obviously).
