Looks like they both got docked points for jumping on Red Cross flag.
Just seen it

It's a shame, but also fair. Rules are rules.

Even if comms is only from the race director himself like sprint car officials use.. purely for safety reasons. But mechanic to rider comms could be insane for line choice during the race,I think it would make great racing or followcross, but we won’t know till we try..
e. White Flag with Red Cross or Red Flashing Light:
9. If Race Direction determines that there was a blatant
violation of this rule, the penalty for non-compliance will be:
c. During a Main Event race, if no positions were gained, the
penalty will be the points and purse equal to two positions
in the final results for that race plus two additional points.
d. During a Main Event race, if any positions are gained, the
loss of number of positions gained plus the points and
purse equal to two additional positions in the final results
for that race, plus two additional points.
TLDR: no position gained means docked points only not position (so others don't move up the ladder).
The guys turnng that corner were NOT looking to the outside of the track (where the flag was waving). They were looking at the 1st jump or down the the jump section that Chase was lying in.
Doesn't matter. The Flag was out and waving and those are the rules.
I get it; but, it does seem that we might need to get back to those lighting systems that flash when a rider is down. They seem much better at alerting the riders.
It's a shitty feeling to find yourself in the air with a friend...a rider...on the ground right in front...or worse...right below you.
At Mammoth in 2019, I found myself in the air at the top of the start hill (jumping on to The Bus Stop) and a friend and really good competitor was on the ground right where I was headed to land...
I 'ejected' my bike mid-air and barely glanced him and he ended up being ok.
That moment, where I found myself in the perfect trajectory to land on Ed...it was the shittiest feeling.
Points getting taken...results being changed...it all sucks. But, those are the rules.
Chase NOT getting landed on? I'll take it.

Edit... or you can see it in an Instagram video on page 15 of the night show thread...
Not sure about Friese but JA and KR basically had no chance to see the flag
