Can’t remember where I heard it from or if it was just someone just talking but I heard that rockstar is leaving the sport since being bought by Pepsi and they don’t really care to go racing. Wondering if there was any truth to this?

Oh I thought they had ended it with Yamaha and the team shut down in Canada? I haven’t heard anything on it since I listen to that podcast.

I've spoken a few times about that topic, here on the forum. Both the departure from Bobby Hewitt (Who brought Rockstar into sponsoring Husqvarna) and PepsiCo taking the Rockstar Brand in his back pocket made it look bad for the sport...

While I despise energy drinks and the fact that so many people (especially kids) are hooked on the swill, the reality is that you can kiss pro MX/SX goodbye without them.

Do you like this sport? Because without the energy drink sponsorships it wouldn’t be where it’s at.

I agree that without these energy drink companies, our sport would not be where it’s at today. But I can’t help but wonder where they get all of this money from.. Red Bull is top of the class and Monster is still hanging out but I have literally never seen anyone drinking a Rockstar.

If the only way to keep the sport alive is by drinking poison piss let it die.

I don't see Red Bull or Monster leaving anytime soon so let's not get all chicken little.

Rockstar leaving (who had stifling branding requirements for teams and riders) might actually be a good thing.

Perhaps the threat of this brand leaving will force promoters and teams to reevaluate how to attract sponsors. (Specifically source out the people at the top who think MX/SX is cool.) Maybe start with Suzuki. haha

From a branding/ advertising standpoint, these brands can get far more reach with social media, SEO, and other digital channels. Get someone at the top that thinks the sport is cool, they'll find the money to be a part of it. (You think Petronas, BWT, ARAMCO, and others are sponsors in F1 and MotoGP because of reach? haha)

There’s about 15 different flavors of rockstar in pretty much every convenience store across the country and you don’t think people drink them or they aren’t making money Dry

Rockstar will be going through a re-branding and eliminating a bunch of the sku's. Also, Pepsi only kept a few of the key Rockstar employees and now they are employees of Pepsi Energy. Which, like Coca-Cola will probably be having a Pepsi brand energy drink soon. Not sure what that means for Rockstar's marketing but at least they're budgets and payments are set for 2021.

There’s a coke branded energy drink? I don’t drink them but I’ve never noticed one in the wild before so that would be news to me.

Does this have something to do with the sponsors being gobbled up by the promoters by chance?

Monster is literally the best performing publicly traded company in the world over the last two decades.

The energy drink market is worth $80b annually, and though it is heavily saturated with brands, Rockstar is still the third-largest in market share.

That article is almost two years old, and their stock has nearly doubled in price since then. So the 60,000% increase that was mentioned is now more like 100,000% increase.

Though, the high percent of increase is mainly due to them being a penny stock when they went public 20+ years ago.
