Headed out Sunday to the middle of Texas to pick a few of my flood victim bikes from a friend of mine who helped me out during the flood last year. As soon as the waters had receded he rented a box truck and drove 300 miles to pick up as many of my bikes as would fit and with the help of fellow Vitard Derek Harris, got me back in business. By the way, the middle of Texas is pretty far out there

Finally arrived at the bat cave

Checked out some hardware and headed to my buddy’s mfg plant to see some more.

Finally get to see some of my handiwork in a state of completion. Sometimes I almost impress myself! This is his original 74 CR125 he has owned since new. Was in boxes for decades.

And of course more Moto stuff tucked away.

Up early Monday and more windshield time.

In Texas the roads occasionally lead to good places.

Photo

My buddy rented Cycle Ranch for his birthday today and invited a few of us out for some good times. Photo

A few Vitards are here and some guy named Howerton. Good times, great stories. He may even let me spin a lap on this...wink

And birthday boy took a bit of a digger. He’s at the hospital getting morphine and his ribs scanned. Me? Suffering Houston traffic on the way home. These old guys are laughing at us.

Very very cool. You guys somewhat recovered from the disaster?

Thanks for letting us see some of that beautiful iron. I haven't seen Tommy on a bike for a long time. Was Howerton able to keep up on that battery powered sled?

One time Andrew pulled up and parked next to me at Crosscreek.

As he was pulling up I said to my friend - this guy must really like Andrew Short, he has all of his graphics and even runs the same number!

Then he got out of the truck and it was actually Andrew with his father-in-law.

Pretty freaking cool...

Tommy was badly injured a few years back at Murphy's MX. His daughter, Andrew's wife Jackie is faster that most of us. Raced Tommy in the 70's at Rio Bravo, great people.

Sorry to say, your Suszuki hero has drank the Alta Kool Aid. Kent was singing its praises like no other. Anyone that wanted to got a chance to spin some laps. I was about to take a few laps when my buddy took a digger.

Injury report, 4 broken ribs. That's usually a good time to call it a day and load up.

Pretty much. We kicked ass on the house from the beginning to try and beat the rush on materials and get it wrapped up as quick as possible. After that we put my home shop and garages on hold until the contractors got somewhat back to normal. Just got the workshop underway over the last couple weeks. Coming along good!

No, I seem to be struggling to get back to riding on a normal basis. Always seems to be something else that takes priority, life I think they call it.laughing Yesterday was a good start though, had fun out on the track!

Great report Joe. Love the part about Kent drinking the Alta cool aid. Seems a lot of the top pro's from back in the day like them. At the AHRMA national at Rio, Stackable and Wise each road one of my demo's during the parade lap. Wise could not believe the power. Said he had never been on a dirt bike with that much torque! Stackable asked if he could ride one in practice. He came in from the first practice session and asked if he could ride it in the next practice session. Said it was the most fun he had on a dirt bike in a long time! Next time you see me at the track, you need to take a spin on one.

Great to see Subway Tom on a bike again!

The 74 CR125 race bike up above is one super trick little ride. Hand formed alloy tank and loads of titanium including the axles and swing arm pivot.

Photo

Photo

All sorts of trick stuff laying around. 1983 Mugen kitted CR125 here with works swing arm and even has the lowboy fuel tank.

Photo

Early type 2 style works 125 Honda frame? This thing weighs next to nothing! As rare as it gets.

It was a gift from Bob Fox as a “Thank You” for helping put Fox on the map back in the 70’s. Great stuff right there. We seem to hear a lot of negative stories about the Moto industry yet here is a guy who never forgets those who helped him on the way. Marty Smith and Brad Lackey also got Alta’s from Bob.

Who else here has a Sean Bailey carved long board in their office? Well, other than TBTeam...

This thing is sweet, amazing work.

Huge autographed Bailey poster highlighting his career. I also have one of these in need of a frame.

Under it is a copy of the Transworld article where Andrew Short rode all of his fleet of Vintage Honda’s.

Speaking of Short, his old Motoworld RM125 sits in the fleet these days.
