Wouldnt Cole Seely fit in this thread? Talented, good rides but never really made it all the way.

I bet Tyler Hoeft would've been a threat as he got older, Happy to see Justin is still riding and I hope he has a good SX season.

This sport is a tough one.

Definitely Donnie Hansen! Was in his prime and had a freak crash, didn’t get to defend either one of his Number 1 plates.

The dude won TWO national championships. How is he a 'coulda, woulda'?

I'd say Stroupe, his name instantly came to mind.
On a 125, but he never made it big on the 250s. He mentioned Canard and he had championships also.. Perhaps I misread the question?

I laughed out loud when I read that.

Jlaw was FAST, but had a 10cent head.

Bob Hannah. He was the RC of his day and would have had many more titles and wins under his belt if he had not hung out with Marty Tripes that one day. He missed a whole year of his prime and didn't get back to his winning ways until he joined team Honda and then got hurt again and again for the rest of his career.
Yeah he was really back on track in 83 and would likely of won 250sx, 250mx, and the grand national title they had back then. He was totally dominating outdoors and leading the SX points I think when he got hurt. Then got hurt again. If not for the injuries he would probably have done well in 84 and 85 also.

People are posting guys that didnt do that well that were never really the next big thing - Like I would say, Bogle, Jessy Nelson, Jake Weimer etc did fucking well and are those guys that did the best with what they had, even with injuries.

I think this is those guys expected to do amazing that flunked out or in the case of JS7 crashed out of bookoo titles.

there some mentioned above but i would Mike Alessi or Robbie Reynard (although a little older im not sure) has to take the cake above.

That and maybe the crop of kids that lost their shit a bit, Stroupe, Hill, Jlaw, grant etc.

What about Bobby Bonds?

Agree with others on TP199.

And even though JS7 had many many titles, its still amazing he only has 2 Supercross titles in the premier class. James still had an amazing career though, including a perfect 450 season outdoors in 2008.

But I think the OP needs to clarify what is meant by "Woulda Coulda" . Is he referring to winning titles or having successful careers? Because Canard had a successful career in my opinion...
Bonds for sure. I was at Hangtown when Langston swept his front wheel down a long downhill. Never the same but I think he had a great WORCS career.

I think Stew. Who would of thought in 07 when he was destroying everyone, that he would only win 2 sx titles? 50 wins and a perfect season are amazing accomplishments, and I am not downplaying them at all, but a dozen years ago, I think we all thought he would destroy every record in sight.

I miss Tyler a lot. But ya I would agree. That last year before his passing he picked up so much speed. Having a fast older brother and fast friends will definitely do that to you. Him and Justin were so much fun to watch when we were at the local tracks or when we all traveled to Mammoth and other local races. Their dad Darren was/is no slouch on a bike either.

I think of K-dub, not because he had a bad career but McGrath and RC were born and took a lot of championships from him.

Also my fav. rider, JS7 and that 22 guy. If they hadn’t of bounced off each so much, one of them would probably have at least one more title.

So many different reasons, timing, injuries and dominant years.

The biggest shoulda woulda coulda are the best guys ever. What if RC never retires, A million things with Stew. What if Roczen dosent get hurt when it was looking like he was gonna take over the SX/MX world completely. RJ at gainsville in 89 or Hannah in 79. Etc, Etc.

If your going by guys who never won titles or rarely applied them selves then it's Stroupe then J Law.

Canard IMO could have done some serious damage had he stayed healthy.

Oh and CP377 not racing 450SX in his prime. The list is endless.

except he left Suzuki as an amateur to ride KTM and then had a Team Green ride that would have landed him at PC if it wouldn't have been for the desire by Mitch to bring Baggett over from Suzuki, since him and Wilson were both so close their last year of amateurs. The last true Suzuki amateurs to come through would be Broc, Davi, Dungey and Izzy to end up on factory teams right away if I'm remembering correctly.

I'm kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Matt Walker or Billy Laninovic.

What ever happened to these guys?

Matt walker was fun to listen to, would love to see him in the booth. Isn’t he running an Mx school now?
