Broke out the 85 Honda 500 for a Vintage race this weekend at the new Kings Ranch Facility.
Lots of quality iron here in the southeast
here is a real 4 stroke
One for my buddy pipe
Benny who posts here freakin flies on his 490 Maico
I went 4-4 in the 50 plus class.
This 250 Maico Magum and I raced this close every single lap of both of our motos.
After 24 years and 40 extra pounds the CR is still a sweet handling ride
I had forgotten how good a bunch of 500 2strokes sound leaving the line
Chest protectors were mandatory in the big bore class
On Thursday afternoon I was riding the bike out back and my punk 14 yearold son said he wanted to ride it. I informed him that the CR500 was not built for flatbilled death metal posers but if he could crank it I might let him ride it To my total amazement somehow he got every bit of his 110lbs behind the kickstarter and fired up the mother. So after about 15 min. on the beast he pulls up with this big dumb grin on his face and says" this is the funkiest coolest bike I have ever ridden and I want to race it this weekend.
So he goes 2 & 3 in the schoolboy motos on the KTM.
and goes 6-3 in the EVO combined 3 & 4 expert/ Intermidiate class on the 500
Here he sets up his final pass of the day for 3rd
Jr. will not be the next James Stewart or Chad Reed but if 500 2 strokes were still the premier GP class he might of had a chance at being the next JMB.
We had a whole day togther with no yelling, no getting mad at each other just lots of laughs and smiles. It was a damn good day for sure

Great report!
Especially this part;
We had a whole day togther with no yelling, no getting mad at each other just lots of laughs and smiles. It was a damn good day for sure
That is what it is really all about.
Thanks for the post man that made me smile.
The Shop
This was the best part:

Like jndmx posted-

That's the moto I have fond memories of; sure there were those times we got mad, but we got over it, were man enough to say sorry and lot of times became friends instead.
We got that Lackey event here this weekend; too bad no evolution bikes, but at least a lot of riders pre-entered for both days of nothing but vintage bikes and some Euros.
Can't wait and see some folks I haven't seen for ages.
The bummer of no riding hurts; but the beer garden may soothe that.....hehehe.
Thanks for the Race report/photos a bunch.
I bet Jr. learned the meaning of "short-shifting"
"I love the smell of pre-mix in the morning. That gas and oil smell... it smells like "VICTORY"
I think I have raced every one of those bikes.
Thanks for the time it took to post em' up.
"We had a whole day togther with no yelling, no getting mad at each other just lots of laughs and smiles. It was a damn good day for sure"
is what it's all about
great pix, nice writeup, glad y'all had a good weekend!
thanks for sharing a great story.
Well done.
With Jr. on the 500 you have a record horse power to rider weight ratio!
Jr. got a great shot of you in the air. Classic Larry Friday style!
There may still be hope for this place.
Now I got to find me a sweet deal on a mid 80's 250 Honda.
