I'm considering selling my Ricky Carmichael chest protector. I believe it’s from when he was on 80’s. I think something like this would be worth around 2k or so, but it’s really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If anyone is seriously interested let me know and I’ll reach out to you.

Cool chest protector but I don't think it's worth anywhere near $2k.

Yeah might be a stretch but you might find someone willng to pay. I would say $200 if it's authentic and not just stickers slapped on some old chest protector.

“I got a buddy down the road whos an expert in vintage ricky carmichael chest protectors. Let me give him a call”

Expert: “Yeah its definitely the real deal. Id value it at $2500.”

“Look man we can offer you $100. We got no idea how long its going to sit on the shelf and we do have to make a profit.”

Seller: “yeah i went in with a $2500 RC chest protector and walked out with $100. It was definitely a win win for me and the pawn shop”

Awesome piece of memorabilia man! I’m curious to know the backstory on how you ended up with it and why you’re unsure of what era it’s from?

I wouldnt give a dollar for it, but if I owned it Id give it to Mr/Mrs Carmichael as a gift. No one could see more value in something like that than mom and dad.

That’s a very nice gesture but most likely they have a basement full of those goodies.

My guesstimate on value would be right around $150-200 and that’s if you get multiple bidders on Ebay. Jerseys have always been the most desirable item for collectors. The value will go down as RC’s fan base ages.

My father was friends with Ricky's dad and he grabbed it out of his garage like 15 years ago and gave it to me because he knew I was such a big fan. And i think it's from when he was on 80s because the photos of him back then showed him running the 167. Now addressing some other comments, the reason I value it so high is because its a one of a kind item. I've seen his gear go from 500-1500. And there is a ton of his gear out there for purchase. I just thought something rare and unique like this would fetch more money. I'd compare it to being able to buy Michael Jordan's shoes or jersey that he used in a high school game. But I'd never sell it for some of the numbers I've seen on here, I don't need the money that bad.

^^^ Jerseys are more valuable than chest protectors. Just because it's rare/unique it doesn't mean it's worth a lot of money.

I say knock a zero off what you think it's worth and it's in the ballpark of what it's actually worth. $200-$300. They don't display well like jerseys or helmets. Almost need some sort of mannequin to display it and that takes up more room than a jersey or helmet.

Don't need the money, I say keep it.

Ill bet you it ends up in has barn property shop if it goes back to the Carmichaels...... you know, the one that MXA reposted that was from a few years ago that was almost falling down.

Inside it was full of bike parts and works parts Mostly all Suzuki.....factory RMZ450 engine(s) factory Siuzuki wheels for both RC & Dungey, and A LOT of misc parts.

^^^ This. Try listing it on EBay with a reserve you’re comfortable with. It’ll either sell or it won’t sell ! But I think your expectations are a little high. But I’m no expert in this field.

You should try selling cars.
