You knew someone was going to start a thread on him.
First, congrats on your 250th start. Massive number there, so kudos to you.
Now, for his result last night. Did I read it right here a while back that he hasn't been on the bike much this off season and is behind the 8 ball. I didn't expect him to be up front fighting for the win, but I did expect him to be around the middle somewhere. I know the mess up in the first turn of the heat, and subsequent LCQ race forced him into a bad gate pick, but I was wondering if some of you know what his schedule was during the off season.

PS: This isn't a Reed bashing post. I fully expect him to get better over the next several races.

Not a bash at all but I think he was right where he belongs last night.

Looked ok in the LCQ. I think the job was done for him after that. We’ll see if he conjures some motivation going forward.

Looks like he had an off/mistake in the main on the second lap- that lap was about 3 seconds slower and lost about 4 places- from 17th down to 21. Classified as 18th.

To his credit...how many guys Chad’s age could be a consistent 10-15 guy?

I could tell he looked pretty nervous on the line in the LCQ. A top 10 in this field would be a good night

I said this in another post, as a lifetime reed fan(23yo) it’s a bit frustrating to not see him working in the gym and getting his fitness up. Or at least posting on Instagram about it. I get that he had broken ribs from AusX, so whatever I give him the benefit of the doubt. I think trying to put a supercross program together with solid sponsors and top level equipment took most of his limited off season time.

Ellie posted pics all off season of them in the gym, him cycling and other stuff. Nerves got to him last night, he said so, but in the end, this is his last hurrah. Hes here for the beer!

He looked great in his heat which was pretty stacked, last to 12th i think? Likely would have gone straight through if the same scenario happened in the other heat.
I thought he looked a little different in the LCQ and main, likely just wanted to get in and then out fine. With so much competition this year I'd think around 15th on average.

Huge Chad Reed fan. You can see in his face he isn't the usual "lean and mean" Chad Reed who's been preparing all winter for this season. Add that with a new bike, bad luck, some arm pump and you get the result we seen last night. For the first time ever it appears he isn't 100% committed. Understandably. I'm sure he will get better.

So, Reed looks fat and out of shape?

Maybe. I like Brayton. We’ll see in 2 years.

He hasn't been able to train due to busted ribs. He is going to have to race into shape this year. He will be inside the top ten by the last third or half of the season.

He did talk a little shit during the pre-race which alluded to the young guys not being anything special. I’m a fan but that’s the only thing that was slightly satisfying about his finish. Did I misinterpret what he said in the pre-race? Anyhow....good to see him out there no matter where he finishes. Gave me someone to cheer for in the LCQ.

Reed has essentially given his "two weeks notice" to FELD after years of hard work; including standing down when Discount Tire was poached from Team22 and became a series sponsor.

He will do what he wants, when he wants. And................I don't blame him.

He's been saying that for a few years now. Bear in mind he raced Ricky and James so yeah... he's probably comparing the current guys to them, and he's probably not wrong.

They should allow PED’s for 30+ riders.

Say what you want about Reed's performance and trash talking, but he has more wins, titles, starts and podiums than anyone out there currently active on the scene, he has earned the right.

I think its two-sided what he is saying. There arent any completely stand out guys, or a group like him, ricky and james were. At the same time, I think he is saying that the bikes are so good now that the skill gap has narrowed because you dont need to be so perfect on the bike, so a guy that is little rough has some extra to make up for mistakes. At the same time the bike cant be ridden for everything it has so that makes the top guys need to keep themselves in check. This has created closer racing.

He was stressed about his situation, number 250 and him not being at 100%, he'll have some good motos this year, he knows that he isnt a title contender, Mountain Motorsports is getting great press and he has no pressure for securing a ride next year, it is a very unique situation for him to be in.

Mc just got his knee replacement so I doubt he’s super fit. I’ve had mine and you are down longer than you think you would be
