Apparently they (Honda) instantly knew they were in trouble having some serious catching up to do once RC got ahold of that engine .... which i have ridden both back to back with my (at the time) 02 CR250 and an 02 YZ250 .... oh my god! If i had the perfect dirtbike, it would be the 02-07 CR250 with a 99-current YZ250 engine shoehorned into lt .... i also had the pleasure of riding a VERY low hour 2000 CR250 and holy toledo! I forgot how gnarly stupid fast that previous 1992-2001 CR250 engine was.
I hope you fund find the red plastics for the YZ250 and if you do, please post where you found them. I know for a fact i daw rhem on enay but if i remember right, they were expensive .... definitely more than “Tree-Fiddy”
Your best bet might be to go white and then get a red graphics kit over it.
Cycra has some parts available in red but you won’t get a full kit.
The Shop
I found this white YZ at the Yamaha booth at Loretta Lynns one year.
While getting graphics made at Decal Works they had an old 125 gas tank cover in their warehouse that I had to melt and reform a little to get to fit my 250. It was blue so I sanded, primered and painted it with white Krylon rattle can paint.
Before anyone asks these covers are no longer manufactured because of slow sales they were discontinued.
Been years but its still this way today.
Clarke still make a white tank but as you said the dye on the tank can cause problems with graphics.

Pit Row
As for the tank, shrouds, and rear number plates, that will certainly be more difficult.
