I heard in one of matthes podcasts with Some past factory Honda mechanic u think Lars Lindstrom that when RC was a year or two into his factory Honda contract that Honda actually BOUGHT a YZ250 (an 02 or newer) for RC to ride and see what they were up against with Chad Reed and RC rode it with Red plastics on it lol.... not sure that even helps with your post but thought it was an interesting story none the less

Apparently they (Honda) instantly knew they were in trouble having some serious catching up to do once RC got ahold of that engine .... which i have ridden both back to back with my (at the time) 02 CR250 and an 02 YZ250 .... oh my god! If i had the perfect dirtbike, it would be the 02-07 CR250 with a 99-current YZ250 engine shoehorned into lt .... i also had the pleasure of riding a VERY low hour 2000 CR250 and holy toledo! I forgot how gnarly stupid fast that previous 1992-2001 CR250 engine was.

I hope you fund find the red plastics for the YZ250 and if you do, please post where you found them. I know for a fact i daw rhem on enay but if i remember right, they were expensive .... definitely more than “Tree-Fiddy”

I don't think you're going to find them. I've searched pretty extensively for YZ plastics, and I haven't seen red.

Your best bet might be to go white and then get a red graphics kit over it.

You can’t custom order plastics unless you’re willing to buy 100+ sets.

Cycra has some parts available in red but you won’t get a full kit.

White plastics and “RIT dye” is your best bet to get a clean finish just YouTube how to dye it is quite a simple process as plastic is porous and will take the color nicely.

You’re welcome. We got a white rm250 tank and dyed it black worked great I’m positive red would work too.

I agree ive done it before on my last yz but im looking to do something nobody has done before i made it on mx vs atv all out but not able to send pics at the moment but will later to show what i was thinking. I like the thought of vibrant red plastics with vibrant blue graphics and all the small details on fhe bike being red like hubs and bolts

The RIT dye process can be found on Thumpertalk. It works pretty good except on gas tanks that have graphics applied to them. The dye bleeds out of the plastic pores with the fuel turning the graphics blackish.

I found this white YZ at the Yamaha booth at Loretta Lynns one year.

While getting graphics made at Decal Works they had an old 125 gas tank cover in their warehouse that I had to melt and reform a little to get to fit my 250. It was blue so I sanded, primered and painted it with white Krylon rattle can paint.

Before anyone asks these covers are no longer manufactured because of slow sales they were discontinued.

Been years but its still this way today.

Nice looking bike.
Clarke still make a white tank but as you said the dye on the tank can cause problems with graphics.

Got an 06' recently and have thought about something like this. I'd get a natural colored tank though, the blue showing through looks lame, plus I like to be able to see where the gas is and make line on the side where a gallon is for moto. No sense carrying 2 gallons of fuel for a 15 minute moto

Cycra made front fenders, front number plates, rear fenders, and fork guards in red to fit the newer style YZ's. The front fender was for the 250f/450f but you can certainly make it fit.

As for the tank, shrouds, and rear number plates, that will certainly be more difficult.

I've think Cycra may have fenders in red. I don't recall seeing them on their site but a few year's back there was a bike or two circulating the net that had red. Give e'm a call.
