Part motocross, part endurocross, part hard enduro. Round 5 of the WESS series continues this weekend. Here's a preview from race creator Taddy Blazusiak.

I really like this new WESS Championship. Too bad Taddy dropped out of Romaniacs. Megawatt should be good for him on home soil.

Yeah, that DNF for Taddy and Graham really hurt. They need to make up ground here in a hurry. The thing is that this isn't a super extreme event so it will be hard for Jarvis to make up ground. Taddy should do well but I bet Jonny (who has won it 3 times), Manni and Billy are there too. Should be good.

I do really like the WESS series but I'm not sure I like the non extreme events like the cross country races in there. I would prefer races like Hell's Gate and Sea to Sky to be in there but hey, that's just me. It will def mix things up a bit as in round 2 which was more of a traditional enduro the hard enduro guys were no where near the top.

For sure a lot of orange and white but they are the biggest manufacturer putting $ into R and D for two strokes.

However, Sherco is well represented as Wade Young will be near the top (and he won Romaniacs) as will Mario Roman. Both on Shercos. Also, for something different, Blake Gutzeit got a top 10 finish on his Yamaha YZ250 at Romaniacs. He's fast as well and will be near the top 10. You also see quite a bit of Beta and GasGas. But yes, mainly KTM/Husky, particularly KTM.

Yeah I agree, the enduro in France seemed out of place. But if you are going to call it WESS, you gotta have a classic enduro in there.

If you ride anything but KTM, husky, sherco, tm, gas gas or beta at an extreme Enduro then you're just dumb.

When it gets fast, I expect Taddy to make up ground. He's 35 now but he is extremely fit and in great physical condition. The rest of the races are more cross country/hybrid events. This will hurt Graham but benefit Taddy as he is really strong at more motocross style events.

I do think you do need some variety in there but the star power of this series is the hard enduro guys. The extreme stuff has eclipsed the EnduroGP in popularity and is really on the rise. I just wish they would include Sea to Sky as that is a great, great event which in itself has a lot of variety. But it's the first year of series. I'm sure they will tweak it as it progresses.

It is odd but I like it when Blake got top 10 on a YZ250. He obviously has good support thru his sponsors who use Yamaha.

I know in MX the two stroke is all but dead (though the 125 seems to be having a resurgence) but think about the thousands of two strokes sold in Europe. You would think the other Japanese bike makers would at least look at making a 300 two stroke for that market. There are a LOT of people riding races like Megawatt, Romaniacs, Erzberg. This is not a small market for bike sales.

There's a Colton Haaker vlog where he's in Spain and they do this endurocross session and a bunch of top international riders are there and before Colton even gets suited up Blake Gutzeit is asking him if he could try out his Husky.

I'm about 35 minutes into Blake's Romaniacs helmet cam footage and I was getting tired just watching him kickstart the YZ over and over on the steep sloppy hills. Poor guy.

The oddball bike in Hard Enduro. Blake Gutzeit and his YZ250. He got 8th at Romaniacs. He says the different flywheel makes it like a different bike and loves it in the slow technical stuff.

Some guys in South Africa (?) built this but as far as I know it never made it to production...
