I'm not a collector or anything but there seems to be a few select bikes from every era that are the ones people look back fondly of and scoop up on craigslist.

Some of the more recent 'last of their kind' bikes are easy. The last variants of RM and CR two-strokes are obvious. XR650R's are probably another one.

What do you think some of the more recent bikes are the ones we will be drooling over in 20+ years? Or will there be any? When a generation has grown up with fuel injection, is anyone going to care that they used to put carburetors on these things?

I'd expect certain first year bikes to be going up in value on the 4 stroke side IE 98 YZ400, i have also seen a huge rise in all 90's 2 strokes......ive been hunting for a 94 YZ250 or 125 for a good while now. The 97/98 CR250 is also gaining popularity...maybe due to first year aluminum frame?

I'd say the Alta will be considered a foundation for electric bikes. Pretty big deal, so I could see the original being sought after.

Todays bikes are the 1993 Camaro of MX. Duds that nobody will want.

I don’t see any present bikes standing the test of time very well.

I think 2005 Yamaha YZ-125 & YZ-250 models because of them being the first year of the aluminum frame. The bikes were all new.

I bought a pretty original 89 CR250 that I thought was cool and would be sought after in good shape, did a mild restore back to oem and I’ve had it for sale for like 2 months. I think we think dirt bikes are things that are cool and collectible until we try to sell them haha

KTM 200sx I believe 2004 was the last year.
Any late model KX's would be on my list.
2004 YZ's with the steel frame.

Was it 2008 that had the great crf450 which then got worse the next year? would anyone collect a 4t?
I saw a late model steel frame YZF and I don't know why but I thought it was pretty slick looking.

The last generation four strokes. Soon, everyone will be on electric bikes and we’ll be nostalgic for engines that use gas and produce sounds and smells, instead of motors and batteries. It’ll be similar to what 4-strokes have done to 2-strokes. The original Alta will be the YZ400F of the future.

Seriously. Any 17 white left overs will disappear pretty quickly I imagine.

Same as now, the 2strokes. They will always be colectable.

My '07 with a Chad Watts massaged motor and carb and a bunch of other goodies will probably be something my kids will have to dispose of after my shelf life expires.

2001 CR250. Great suspension and a rocket motor!

l can't really think of any current bikes that would be collectable. Maybe the first Alta? Any bike out there that is bad? Remember the Canam Black Widow, never wanted one then, kill for one now :-)
