“I (or my buddy) used brand x piston and it didn’t last 10 hours” is not useful information, other than to say that pistons aren’t always installed properly or any brand will have the occasional faulty product.

As mentioned above, most people dont know to check ring gap or how to check ring gap.
Most of the time, ring will need to be filed down to achieve the proper clearence.
The newer the cylinder the more material needs to be filed off. A very worn cylinder will need less material filed if any.

On the Wiseco debate, when you mix improper ring gap with not taking the extra time to warm up your bike will always spell disaster.
Forged aluminum pistons heat and expand way faster than cast pistons. Thus extra time is require in the warm up process so the actual cylinder can heat and expand.

Ive run both and have no preference.

Fantastic, great amount of advice.
I’m going to dismantle the engine to measure the piston before I get a new one. I think I’m going to go for vertex.
Got myself some new tools on order for bore honing.
Thank you everyone 😁

Can anyone remember when kxf450s had piston failures on brand new bikes?
