Move from C to B class?

Edited Date/Time 12/15/2014 10:29am
Hey guys, I was wondering if I should move from C to B class. This year I usually finished in the top 3 in open and top 4 or 5 in 14-24C, I so far have 5 wins for C class and I am 2nd in state for Open C and its the end of the season. I can usually lap 1 or 2 of the B guys when I race, so I was wondering would I be fast enough? I just don't want to get waxed in b class, I really want to move to B class but I'm unsure if I should... I just race local, no big nationals or anything. So I was hoping someone could answer me. I know there are already some forums on this but none I could really relate to for an answer. Thanks for anyone who can help!

Shouldn't you be seeking advice from your parents, friends, the people in your local club, maybe the ref of your local series??

Seems like a weird first post. But that's none of my business.

If you are fast enough to lap some slower B riders, what exactly would your motivation be for staying in C class?

One would think that if he was looking for trophies he would have never asked this question.

Move up, you will have motivation to get even faster chasing the top riders in "B". Good luck!

I was always under the assumption a B Rider was Pro/A Rider that wasn't quite ready to turn pro yet or wasn't of age.

If you live in California there are no classes above C class. If you live anywhere else then move up

How smooth of a rider are you? What I mean by that is do you hold your line fairly well, especially in the pack? How's your corner speed? If it's decent and you're not just going wide open in the straightaways better than the rest of the pack, you should be good to go. The B class will be doing most, if not all, of the jumps on the track. Are you? If you know any B class riders I'd go riding with them and see how you compare.

If you're lapping anyone in the B class, move up. If you have aspirations of going to Loretta's, I guess you can try your luck in qualifiers one more time. It seems to me like you're at a point where the only thing that will make you better is better competition. I personally would hate waxing the field when I know there's better competition by just moving up a class. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

If you are even questioning it, move up, with the biggest plus being safety. You'll find that B riders can actually hold a line instead of swapping all over the place.

You'll become a faster rider by riding in a faster class, no doubt. Just be prepared to eat a lot of humble pie for awhile...

C class can definitely be a fast class... but if your #1 goal is to become a better racer, jump to B.

Looks like you are from MN. Why not compare yourself to other riders in your area. For example, can you run with Henry Miller? He is a fast MN B rider. Did any riders from your area go to LL in the C class? If so, how did they do?

I'm not even sure why this is a question for most people. Move up as soon as you can (if your skill permits) and race against better riders. If you are near the front/winning C class than I'd expect to be midpack or higher in B class from the start. Riding with a better group of riders will allow you to get faster and teach you stuff you didn't think of. Either way, best of luck.

Also, I found it shocking how hard it was to run those extra laps. Your body is wired for x and suddenly there are x+y.

I remember in the 80's wanting to move up to the A class. My second year racing, I could beat about 2/3 of the B class, the next year I wanted the championship jacket for 250B, them I wanted to jump right into A. It's no lie that riding with faster riders will make you faster. Follow the faster riders for as long as you can and try to mimick their actions. You will eventually pick up speed leaving your fellow C riders behind. Nobody likes a cherry picker.
Just my .02 worth.

You have to win every race you enter for 3 consecutive years to be eligible to move up.

Absolutely in my opinion. I raced C class once when I was 12. Won a moto and decided to race B after schoolboy. Raced 125B a season then 250B the next. Won one moto my second year in B on the 250 then moved up to 250A the next. Was doing just as good in A as I was in B. Ended up winning more races in A than all others on a big bike combined. Never understood why people sandbag other than for Loretta's (not calling anyone here a sandbagger). I couldn't move up fast enough.
