In the latest Pit Bits there was a photo of a Bell Moto-3 painted for Eli Tomac. The caption said Bell was making these again, but I have searched and can't find anything about this. Does anyone have any info on this re-issue of a vintage helmet?
(Nothing on the Bell website)

Thanks

Forget the Moto 3, I'd much rather see the Re-issue of the Moto 4.

Yes! I had a Ricky Johnson signature Moto 4 blue with red and white with the bulldog on the back. Badass helmet

I'd take a Moto 3 just because it's more era correct for my 1980 RM. Both 3 and 4 are great designs.

The old Moto 3s and Moto 4s have become insanely popular with the hipster custom bike crowd. Guys are sometimes spending crazy money on these old lids, and sending them to "specialists" to "refurbish". Bell could possibly make a good return by rereleasing them. But then the hipsters probably won't find them cool anymore...

If it didn't have that fugly Monster logo on it...I might buy it. Frankly, I think it was just a retro one-off for the event, and to be worn by Tomac during the rider intro portion of the event.

One of the gang from Bell told me that they'll be available.

I love this idea. It will look good for vintage races. My dad used to wear a moto 3 when he raced.

My Dad still has all mine, all the way back to a Bell Mini Moto. Glad he saved them.
He said "One day, you'll want these"

They butchered Tomacs with the Green.

Yup, I had heard the same thing. Probably a few months, but they are re-popping them.

I had a BMX 3.. At that time, I raced BMX, basically the same helmet though. Car pinstriping for graphics, it was rad Laughing After BMX and onto moto in the same era, I wore a Simpson helmet. I swear that helmet was 10 lbs.

I don't know if I would spend money just to have a replica Moto3. I realize that they are right next to retro, but they are right next to goon too, hard to pick.

I had a chance to tour the BELL facility while up in Santa Clara and was told that these helmets are coming. Even better they will be outfitted with the latest BELL tech so you can feel protected while riding you fire breathing vintage CR500.

The moto 3 where ok ,but the Moto 4 with the little air vents on the chin bar was the last helmet I had . They were bad ass back in the day (man I'm feeling old)

Very cool. I'll definitely have to do a repro of my custom painted helmet from my younger days

Got to be period correct for vintage racing. New condition Bell Moto III's are going for over $400 on the used market. Smart move on Bell's part to reissue it.

We all used a Bell MOTO III or Simpson 52 back in the day.

But the MOTO 4 really changed EVERYTHING.

Designed with the help of Bob Hannah, it had all sorts of new features that we take for granted today.

First MX lid with forced air cooling, a visor that finally didnt use snaps to attach, removable liner, large goggle opening, flattened helmet sides for the goggle straps to align to......all features we still use today but had never been seen before.

Lastly you might have noticed how Hannah cut out the front vents on his MOTO III into 2 triangles and replaced the foam with screen mesh....well he finally had his way with the MOTO IV. One big opening (not slits like the III) and screen instead of foam to filter out rocks.

Bell are late to the party.

The asian spawned MOTO III fad has dropped way off.

Prices are much (much) lower than 4-5 years ago.

These guys (whoever) always seem to be the last to hear about a fad.

By the time they reissue something its already over.

Happens with so many "collectible" things.

I have one of those Asian knock-offs, but the more I think about, I don't think I actually want to ride with it. Obviously cheap with a fake DOT sticker

Best era of moto right there. Bar none.

Thats when damn near everyone had a dirt bike of some kind, and when moto was really getting a lot of new technology, REALLY FAST.

That bike has as good of rear suspension set up right as a new bike. Just heavier.
Full floaters worked.

As a kid, when the Moto 4 came out, I wanted it so bad. Even more seeing RJ wearing his. All I could thing about was getting a moto 4. I was still riding with an open face helmet, with goggles and a Mask.

That Christmas I did get one, it was so great. I would buy a re-issue Moto 4 in a heart beat, honestly I think they would still hold up looks wise right now.
