You are forgetting most Americans see Rattray as a new name because they don't follow the GPs...

And What 16 year olds are keeping up with him? top 3 in points aren't American... and Barcia is 18, Tomac 17... What age is Weimar? Metcaffe spent years in it... Didn't Brown win the 125 nationals at 30? Hughes rode it when he was 30 too... RV won two national titles and raced it again the following year. it's a professional class let them race and stop whining because the USA guys aren't winning just enjoy the racing.. Canard and Tomac will be up there soon.

Rattray is fast but he is a rookie to US racing and it is different. but the smoother tracks shorter races and intense sprint style don't seem to suit him.. but maybe he is getting it figured out. Rattray excels in tough rough sandy conditions.

Rattray has every right to race in that class in the US there is no age restrictions
I am pretty sure they are all AMA guys right now. I didn't know there were any GP riders on the line at High Point. I remember one at Hangtown in the 450 class. But I am pretty sure they are all AMA based riders in both class.

Tyla was hammering out laps all day..
Not sure if he has a nick-name but "Bulldog" suits him well.
He is tough and just keeps fighting from the drop of the gate to the checkers.
3 races so far and 3 different overall winners.
What a season so far!! Woohoo

He`s only here for the money remember, He holds a World Champion title now he wants the paycheck. He`s riding the gravy train here on the easy groomed track short races, They don`t want to the big paycheck boys getting tired and making mistakes and get hurt....

He might have had a good time off the track. At Southwick in '08, the sand specialist got 3rd in the first moto (Andrew Short came in 2nd), and was so out of gas he didn't finish the 2nd moto.

At the recent USGP he was somewhere in the mid-20s both motos and he couldn't have been having that good of a time, because he announced his retirement between motos.

Tyla is like Coppins, you don`t want either one close behind you with a couple of laps to go...strong and relentless

I hope he stays strong for the whole outdoor season. Should make for quite the battle for the overall podium for the season.

So what`s the problem , It`s obvious you are not a follower of GP`s or have a clue to Mark. His trademark style and he would be the first to admit it is fast as hell, 1 good placing and a moto full of mistakes, but Mark can out ride anyone when he keeps it on 2 wheels. No surprise on his retirement, Mark was doubting before the season but had a competitive ride so "why not" as he would say. He has only retired from active GP, he`s going to be around in the country Championships for a long time..3rd on a track he has never rode before, hmmmWoohoo

You remind me of the kid down the road who thinks he is right about everything and has no ability to consider anything anyone else says..........It really surprises me that if the GP's are such a greater series then why do they need cheerleaders like you to argue the message across. If the GP's are so great in your mind why don't you find a GP forum? Oh you wouldn't be able to fish and nitpick all day long, get a life. See you at MXDN from a top.

So the American riders that went overseas because they couldn't find a ride here are the best we have to offer? Because the MXDN is the BEST of each country, you realize that right?

It's difficult say "RATTRAY" without sounding Scooby-Doo'ish - but hey, this guy

seems as tenacious as ever. Rides damned hard, won't give up.

He's earning his American fans with every determined ride.

Could it be because the GP`s are starting to fill the top teams and the AMA riders have a high goal to fulfill before returning to fill the spots as veteran GP riders? Like I said MXDN every GP

You didin't answer the questions posed.

Answer the questions or get out of the discussion. The American riders over there are not vetarans.

Re-visit my prior statement please, re read multiple times until you grasp the idea of it. Pourcel and Rattray are in another library in terms of proven ability when they came over. The two you speak of would not be on the ballot for our MXDN "E" team. However I feel as if bringing reason to your statements is worse than trying to squeeze water out of a dead leaf.

Don't waste your time, this guy's either pulling our legs or truly off his rocker. How can you win an argument with a person who has no common sense or reason?

Seems everyone here has forgotten the times back in the early nineties when the 250 nationals were only six races long and then the 500's were six races long. The Suzuki factory 250 guys would drop down and race the last half of the 12 race 125 national series. The original intention of the small bore class was to develope younger riders, but it really hasn't been that way since shortly after it's inception in the late seventies. All the arguing is for naught, as it's a class that, even with his experience, Rattray is perfectly eligible for. What about youngsters like Kyle regal who do better in the 450 class right away, having never ridden the lower displacement class much? And Alessi's second ever national, a podium in the 450 class? And Canard this SX season? Nobody bitches when the little kids pick on the old farts....

As far as I see it, the Amateur Nationals are the stepping stone, once your pro, YOUR PRO. You don't see rookies in their own league in the NFL. Everyone can race local AMA, everyone can play high school football, People can try to play College, People can try to qualify for Am Nat's, The chosen ones go pro for both. There's probably a better comparison but I still never understood the developmental class idea.

There should be no restriction on either class, some riders are big class riders some are small class riders...The rider with the most points at the end of the season is the Champion for that year that series that class. Let them ride where they are comfortable. Less federation involvement and rules.. sort of a tea bag motocross back to the people type thing.
