Line up as early as you can because they pack’em in there. Nice thing about the early start is the 7:00 am practice you’re awake (if you can sleep the night before).

I raced in ‘07 and it was 2 qualifying motos and a final, may have changed.
Edit: I didn’t race vet weekend

*note the track at 7AM and then last moto. Holy shit does it get rough. That hill gets absolutely bananas.

if you roll in at 6 you will be parking in down in Bishop.

Line up at 4 am, sleep in your truck till they open the gate at around 630. the pits are very small, so there is limited parking.

Last I raced there I was out by 230 PM after my second moto , just enough time to go into town to wash and service the bike ( no bike washing allowed at the track), get dinner and get to sleep for the next day.

If you do both days there is not much time to socialize or relax, its a full press from Friday morning practice till Sunday night.

In some classes there is only one final moto on Sunday for the Bear if you qualified on Saturday.

I'm not sure if they changed the format, but I always raced in an "impacted" class: +30B. There were two divisions, so you had to race a qualifier to get to moto 1. Didn't make the cut? There's an LCQ. If you make that cut, then you get to race moto 1. That's all on Saturday. 21 laps of racing, plus however many you rode in practice. At elevation. Repeat on Sunday to qualify for moto 2. It's going to kill you, but what a way to go!
In 2009, I was the first rider that did not qualify in the heat, so I raced the LCQ and led for several laps. What a great feeling!

Taking my 9yr old for his first experience at Mammoth. He's going to get his ass handed to him in the 65 classes but it will be a learning experience he'll never forget.
