Hey everyone!

It seemed like a lot of people liked the last few videos I have shared on here so I figured I would start a thread to share my experiences while trying to take on racing at the highest level on the trusty 2 stroke! My dad also made a thread on here for people to follow along with us on our privateer journey back when I first turned pro in 2014 and people really seemed to enjoy the insight so I wanted to give everyone the chance to follow along again, except for this time it should be a much better experience since we are doing it 2 stroke style!

Here is the setup, nothing fancy but it's all we need to get us to where we need to go! I was supposed to travel with a good friend Brandon Scharer in his sprinter van for the summer but he ended up with a compression fracture to his back after Pala so I've had to improvise and hit the road myself! I also was supposed to have a race motor and race suspension to use and unfortunately I had a sponsor back out so I am doing it on my own setup with some light head and cylinder work, vForce reeds, and an FMF pipe and silencer. Up until last week I was planning on using stock suspension since it's all I had, but luckily one of the trainers at South of the Border, Matt Toth, ended up loaning me some Enzo forks to use. Still have the stock shock on there but with the help of the guys at SOBMX I think we have it set up pretty dang good all things considered! I also ended up separating my shoulder about a month ago at the Justin Brayton Shootout in Iowa so I am coming in a little behind where I'd like to be as far as time on the bike, but I am excited to see what I have and build into it throughout the summer. We have hit quite a few roadblocks during our preparation for the summer but it's nothing I've never dealt with before and I've learned to just roll with the punches and do what you can with what you have!

This video is kind of an intro to what we are trying to do this summer. My girlfriend and I are going to try to vlog the experience, we've never done it before but we figured this would be a great time to try. Also in this video I tried to put together some racing highlights from the last year and a half or so on the 2 stroke just to show you guys what we are trying to bring to the table this summer! Won't be anything super professional or with expensive cameras or production, but it will show you guys the experience and hopefully be entertaining as well!

Here's some clips from last week at SOBMX doing some testing on the new suspension setup I'm going to be running. I was also trying to test out my recently injured shoulder to see if it would be good enough to race, but luckily I felt really good and should be good to go for Saturday at High Point!

As of now I am planning on hitting High Point, Red Bud, Millville, Unadilla, Budds Creek, and Ironman if everything works out! I've been racing strictly locally for a number of years and I'm beyond excited to get back behind the gate at the top level and I'm even more excited to be doing it on the 2 stroke. The YZ250 is my favorite bike I've ever had and by far the most comfortable I've been on a bike so I can't wait to see what it can do.

I would like to thank all of the people that have helped make this possible for me this year. In a time of uncertainty with what all is going on in the world it means a lot to me that people were still willing to support me and I appreciate it more than I could explain! Thank you to:

Can't wait for this, wish all the best. That would be great if you could get FPV of the racing using a chest cam like Jeff walker does.

I thought the YZ250 was no longer homologated for pro racing. Ill keep an eye on your results for sure

My son and I just started over the last month or so watching Matt's videos on YT. So fun to watch him work the 450s on the 2T! Great rider!! Good luck and see you at High Point! Let it eat!

Stoked to see you out there. Guarantee no one will have more fun... at least until the 20 minute mark when you might wish you were still just chasing the local purse races!

Looking forward to seeing the YZ out at Redbud, and shame to hear about losing the race motor!

Maverick is correct, but the catch was that only the 2022 was homologated and 2022 YZ250's have not been easy to come by, but luckily Donnie Luce from Yamaha was a huge help in helping find me a bike. Donnie has been great to me since I was on 85's and I really appreciate his help! I had 2 2020 models and for a while thought I was going to be out of luck until Donnie helped out. Hopefully I can make the bike look good!

That's the goal! I want to take you guys through the entire experience from the minute I leave the house tomorrow morning. I haven't ever tried to vlog before but I think it should be entertaining without us having to act any different for the cameras so hopefully you all enjoy!

And thank you everyone, If you're going to be at any of the races I am hitting then please come find me to chat! Would love to meet some of you guys and get to know some of the people cheering me on!

I’d be really interested, and I don’t know if Matt even knows yet or will answer, but outside of the cost of buying the bike etc. What sort of budget does a privateer need per round to do this?
