This has probably been discussed before, but I couldnt find it. Why does the general public never know a racer's income. Every other motorsport is pretty open about it, even road racing. Just curious.

James Stewart makes enough to walk up off the street and offer 5 million for a house that isn't for sale and probably isn't worth half that. It's true, I saw it on TV. Oh wait, you said racers. Opps.Blush

Most of the money listed for other motorsports is purse and prize money. Do we really want to advertise that the best rider made $10K in prize money for the season?

I think since they're salaried employees they have to make at least double minimum wage.

Truely, it isn't jackshit. Stewart buys cars and a crib for 5 million, big deal. Without proper management and investing, he'll be broke before he's 45.
Want a big money hero? Check this dork out. He's David E. Shaw and you never heard of him.

Age: 58
Residence: New York, NY
Net Worth $2,500 million
Why he's rich: Founder of quantitative hedge fund
Hobbies: Spends his time solving scientific riddles.
Recent project: supercomputer that Shaw designed allows scientists to run detailed simulations exploring the motions of proteins.

Worth more than RC, JS and CR put together.

I think I'd rather go riding than solve scientific riddles, just me.

That's my point, the income isn't what this sport should (or is) about. Rich dudes are generally not homeschooled. Just sayin

How many years since Gerhard Berger left F1?

I can remember the year he signed with Ferrari for the equivalent of 24 million US as his base salary, plus endorsements.

Man, that was eons ago.

Berger''s salary back in the last century makes what James and Chad make today look like chump-change.

Think he was worried that F1 had no purse?

None of your buisness, not anyones buisness. They are obviously making enough to drive nice cars, and be able to buy houses., so leave it at that.

In 2008, Chad Reed made the BRW Young Rich List at number 83, with a reported income of 25 million.

Here is an excerpt from the BRW site:

Among debutants, motocross star Chad Reed made his mark at number 83 with $25 million, while Formula 1 driver Mark Webber arrived towards the back of the pack at number 93 on $23 million.

Not sure exactly what they go off of but damn impressive if it is actually true!
