Steve was way off the mark with the Tomac strategy not being better than just winning and hoping for the best. That was frustrating to listen to. Weege and JT were right

I love these podcast and all of Steve's work really but it was the first time he started to annoy me that he needed to win the debate and get his point across. He had his opinion and Jason and JT had theirs, respect that.

Other than that part it was a great listen as always. So many story lines and drama in this race. Reality TV at its' best.

I'm an hour in, does it get any better in the next 45min?

For once I cant stand Steve's ranting on this.

Man, Steve is way off on this one. And it seems like he's just listening to respond, not listening to digest what JT and Weege are saying. Frustrating.

Haha.

Steve has done a lot of episodes, they're not all going to be winners.

I get the impression you gotta take Matthes with a grain of salt. Funny and entertaining, but carries that Canadian "Arrogant while being Ignorant" thing going on

Hats off to Steve for his loads of great work, but he missed the mark on this one. Maybe he bumped his head when he was tossed out of the Monster Party. I am sure on tonight's show he will redeem himself. Still the best media guy in the business.

It would have been a 2 minute pod cast if everybody agreed.

For those who haven't listened yet skip to 30 min left after they start arguing. I'm glad tomac tried something. It made for an amazing night of racing. They argue from the commercial and it is rough to listen to.

Yep. Started skipping through it. I swear 20 minutes later they were all still making the same points with no one agreeing.

His point though about "if" Tomac put Dungey on the ground and forced Dungey to finish 5th and unofficially win the title, after deliberately slowing, running him off the track multiple times KTM would have protested and the FIM/AMA would have had a legitimate legal battle on their hands. The 1985 SX championship went to court and wasn't decided for months. So title battles have extended beyond the track before.

The precident they set with the Reed/Canard black flag ruling would come into play in a real court. The fact that Tomac repeatedly tried to slow down and run Dungey off the track and the officials did nothing, and yet they black flag Reed for running Trey off the track once. Yes Trey fell, but KTM lawyers would argue that Dungey is a better rider and was able to not fall. It would get messy.

The random penalties and rulings the FIM/AMA have made over the years will come back to haunt them. The rules need to be enforced consistently and there needs to be a set standard for penalties. Everyone in football knows a false start is a 5 yard penalty. Not a 10 yard penalty one game and a non penalty the next game.

Matthes was so hell bent on hammering his point that he got tunnel vision and lost sight of the whole scenario. Frustrating to listen to. He'll probably never admit it but once he cools off it's gonna be embarrassing.

I was personally looking forward to hearing the Fly/Racer X race wrap up for 2 days and got so disappointed when I did get to listen I had to turn it off. That wasn't a race report, it was all about Steve being butthurt about some silly party, it was obvious the way he came across. Literally taking 45 minutes to argue about theory instead of what happened and being so self centered in the process not only wasted my time but many others as well I'm sure .When possibly the best Dave Coombs Sr. East-West shootout takes place and the best Supercross final to possibly ever happen happens, well, it is really, really frustrating to listen to what should have been, and normally is, a great race report.

I saw this thread yesterday and chuckled, just comical threads are made for one guys rants.

Anywho, I listened to the pod on a flight this morning, and wow, yeah, Matthes is way off base. Painful to listen to at times, best comparison I could come to was he sounded like a stuck up high school chick who wouldn't listen to reason.

Still though, love all the pulp content, and with so much of it out there of course Matthes is going to sound like a jabroni from time to time.

I know this isn't following the trend of the replies but I have to agree with Matthes on this one. From my perspective (unless i missed something) Steve's main point was simply If Tomac took out Dunge in the latter "pass" attempts then AMA and KTM would view it as a takeout and I would agree a penalty would be imposed on Tomac.
Just my Opinion.
Glad we didn't have to see that transpire and we had a clean championship without the AMA having to dictate the champion.

Matthes was right with is point about Tomac blocking Dungey, Tomac was also passed by the other riders. Even if Reed and/or Baggett was there to go by and Dungey finished 5th or 6th, Tomac was also going to be passed by all those same guys and finished only a spot or two ahead of Dungey. It is not like they would all let Tomac go by and then block Dungey. They would need to be separated by 4 spots.

Ya taking off for the win would have almost guaranteed Dungey 2nd, no question. Dungey has either won or come 2nd in Vegas on top of being a podium freak.
