I don't think the World Title motivates that much either.

Who pissed him off here in the States ?

Maybe he just wants to experience something new? Race a different competition on different tracks than what he is used to since he started racing?
9/30/2014 10:33am
He must have gotten bored winning all the time making millions to ride his motorcycle on the same tracks. I wish I had that problem.
9/30/2014 10:34am
He has done everything he needs to do in the US other than racking up more of the same. At the time I always thought MC and RC should have done this their last 2-3 years and taken some World MX titles.

Lower number of races.
Different competition.
Lot's of $$$$ if reports are correct.

He's been doing this a long time.
Everything get's to be a chore at some point.
Might be a nice way to finish out a career in a fashion no one of this generation has done.

Many times you don't really appreciate what you have until it's gone!

Something new after years on the US SX/MX circuit and go win a World motocross title and see the world while he's doing it, plus an American hasn't won it in 20 years.

I don't know why more US riders don't do it. It's the World Championship after all and winning it is a pretty big deal.

It's always been my understanding the guys make more money over here.
Is that incorrect? Is the money deal for RV an anomaly? Will this be the start of
guys going to Europe for big bucks along with a shot at the World title?

In order to be better then the KING or the GOAT, he has to do something they didn't do.

maybe he just needs a change of scenery. seems like he's been burnt out here the last couple years racing every weekend. the GP schedule is much more stretched out.

good for him.

Me thinks Monster has more to do with this than any other involved party.

Wow, twenty years.

That's perspective enough IMO, it'll be great to see it and I hope he goes for more than a single Year deal.

I also hope he binds really well with his team and equipment and enjoys it over here, I'm sure he will away from the SX season running straight into MX. New challenge, more of the globe, new competition, new fans, I can't freakin wait to see it.

In my heart I hope there's no other reason than that above and it's all about the racing and the experience, I'd hate to think a racer moves across the globe because of something sinister, I'm not ready to believe that.

I think this is an un-precedented move for a top tier champ.

Reading between the lines you could see RV wasn't enjoying last year. He's proven himself in every class Stateside, what more can he do apart from chase records? Which he apperently doesn't give 2 shits about.

World Championship is a totally fresh challenge, I expect thats what he needed more than anything.

And a few years down the line, how awesome could his career look in the history books? Potentially 250 SX & MX titles, 450 SX & MX titles, Des Nations Champ, MX1 World Champion..

Not even the GOAT can clame a resume that thorough. Heck, has anyone done that before?

So, that reads like he's only going 'cos he's contracted to do it, no desire or passion for it. Would that be a fair summary?

Get paid BIG $$$$ to essentially race less, first class travel around the world, and have one of your good friends as your teammate who can help with the acclamation process?

I would like to think it was generally his choice. Monster probably does have a big push in him going and perhaps sweetend the deal enough to persuade but I doubt he would go if he didn't want to. It will be great for the MXGP because it will just draw more people to watch. I think it's a win win.

Wow! You may regret posting that, uncle. Opens up a whole lot of negative speculation I'd think. I'd rather have thought he was trying something new rather than think he was cornered into a series he wasn't interested in.

He's probably saying that because RV knee injury and time to get back up to speed. Not from the Dr Evil conspiracy that Monster and Kawasaki are forcing him into something he doesn't want to do.

The final wish of Ryan was to retire, but Monster did not think of the same thing, they let leave Gautier Paulin, Tommy Searle and Steven Frossard for make the RV thing happen in MXGP and have no more MX1 rider in Europe ( except Rattray )!!! Of the blow they threatened Ryan has to sign and threatened to go to justice if he did not ride while he had another contract for 2015...

I'd think that having a World GP title is the icing on the cake for RV, not the $$$. RV already has plenty of money, and no one of his caliber has eve gone across the pond to race the GP's. It's usually the other way around. Plus, it will draw US fans to the series which is good for everyone. It will allow us to get to know some of the GP riders.

RV has made it pretty clear that record books and titles mean nothing to him.
