Ok, so it’s not dead quite yet, but TM dropped it this year, KTM is moving the XC and SX line to TBI, and supposedly the XC-W will follow next year. TPI appears to have been the 4CS of fuel injection.

‘23 moto bikes:

Note the new crankcase pressure sensor. Let’s hope this one works.

Hopefully this makes them run snappy like a 2 stroke should. The current TPI isn't good for anything except "Extreme Enduro" and not all of us enjoy pushing our bikes around all day doing that crap.

This right here. Looks like my 2018 carb'd 300XC is not going anywhere soon.

I don’t exactly hate my 2022 XC… But it is very sluggish off the bottom. Hopefully they make a kit to convert mine or something. I’m admittedly pretty stupid and still learning when it comes to the newer fuel injection bikes.

I don’t know what everyone’s issue is, I have a 2021 TX300 and it has the hardest bottom end hit of any 2 stroke I’ve ridden. Opened the power valve a bit, and threw on an FMF Gnarly pipe.

Other bikes I’ve riden are 2015 300XC (carb), 2017 TX300 (carb), 2017 Beta 300RR (carb), 2017 Yz250x (carb), 2006 YZ315 (carb)

So at a high level how does it work? Butterfly valve throttle body controls air and fuel is injected just downstream of the valve? Which goes into the crankcase and works like a normal 2 stroke from there?

Experiences vary so much with TPI that I’m convinced each bike runs differently.

I’ve got a 2022 250xc and I haven’t had much to complain about yet, only had a couple rides on it so far but I’m racing it next weekend so maybe some issues will develop under those conditions. 🤷🏻

I haven't really run across one that runs "bad" but I've yet to ride one that ran "great".... they just always feel super anemic.

Again, some folks my enjoy that for their style of riding but it's not what I'm looking for in a 2 stroke.

22 300ex. I run my power valve adjuster flush. Couole turns out from stock. Solid mid range hit. Not 10 year old 250sx hit but pretty decent. The bottom end is still very soft and torque y

They need to improve those wire connections. Little to exposed in my opinion.

Look forward to the testing and comparison with a carb model.

I haven’t touched the power valve but have heard that can help, I also bought this bike after being off a motorcycle for 8 years. And I came off 4 strokes for the prior 15 years before that so take my opinion at face value.

I have about 25 hours on my 22 300XC and like I said I don’t hate it. I like it for hard enduro stuff but when I’m running at a fast pace on a more wide open regular harescramble it just doesn’t have the snap I would like it to have. It also doesn’t idle for crap so I’m getting the idle screw mod done next week. I’m hoping that helps a little. I’ll have try turning the power valve out a little more too.

I did the idle screw mod before I even rode the bike. Air bypass screw is not a sufficient alternative. It is for fine tuning only

GET makes a relocation kit for the injectors, if you really need more snap. I have the GET Ignition/ECU, but didn’t do the relocation kit. Couple of my riding buddies have it and really like it, but my 300 runs so good, I’m not going to mess with it.
Play with your power valve, it make a big difference in power delivery. I did the Gnarly pipe and the 2.1 silencer and changed the head. The last thing I want this bike to do is hit hard like my 250 2-strokes. The 300 TPI is like having a 3-stroke IMHO

I gotta be honest here. You are one of the most negative dudes on this site. Do you ever post anything positive ? I actually feel bad for you, it must be miserable living in your shoes.
I see others posting similar things to you and it got me paying attention to your posting habits and they are all right, you need to chill and try and look at the glass as being half full, instead of complaining about your half empty glass all the time. Eat a snickers…

I don’t want my bike to hit like a 250 either. However my last bike was a 2017 husky TE 300 and it seemed to have better low end power than my new XC which is crazy to think about since the husky was a TE. I’ll start with the idle screw mod and mess with the power valve. I’m betting those two will make it a better bike.

If the performance is solid and no big setbacks. Might have to pick up a 23/24 125.

I appreciate the technological advancement with TPI and now TBI, but there’s something special about a carb to me. I always thought it’s a rewarding feeling starting out with a bike that runs like crap and swapping some brass to make it run like a brand new bike.

TBI would not improve emissions, it's a crankcase charge so it will come with all the short circuiting of a carbureted bike.

Anybody spot an oil injector? TBI could potentially run on premix if they wanted it to.
