tough 24 hours. Jake moved in with me when he was 17-18 and I was 14-15. Taught me so much during those impressionable years. Everyday I'd rush home from school as fast as possible to find Jake gassing up our bikes. spraying lube on the chains. cause thats all he knew how to do as far as wrenching. he'd tell me a new story about his day, as we swap into our dirty crusty gear and head down to the river bed. burn a tank every single day down there then ride home hoping not to get caught on Cienega Road. The racing side wasn't important looking back. What is important is he taught me how to drive a stick shift in his vw bug. Once I learned, he'd let me take it wherever I wanted to go without a license. He taught me about girls. He handed me my first beer. my first chew. My mom would make me go to church and Jake would come along cause he thought its different and he'd know I wouldnt fight my mom so bad about it if he was there. He gave me confidence to try a cliff jump or ask a girl out. He would make my family laugh nonstop. He'd shoot pool and vacuum the house while I was at school. He'd try to do my homework as a joke. No book smarts all street smarts. He spoke words of wisdom to me on the regular. After he moved to SoCal, I came down the next summer and his parents took me in to practice and race for a few weeks. Jake & I did a 1 day roundtrip drive to Vegas with a quick stop to drop off Larry Ward's bike. it felt like a 20 minutes in the truck. We saw each other a few more times in the next few years, but then lost touch. Until last month. I called him. We talked for 15-20 minutes on the phone. His son was making noise in the background. Jake had to stop and reason with him. I loved it. He didn't change one bit. Much love!

Always got so fired up as a kid watching him shred on the Moto XXX vid on his 95 CR with his crisp style. I had a 95 CR 80 so it made it even more special. Condolences to his family and friends and thoughts with them also.

Jake was in a car accident on a rural road in Hollister, CA. His car over turned several times. No cliff just over corrected himself that led the vehicle to flip. Receiving this news wasn't easy...Jake and I were best friends throughout Junior and High School. I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend, my brother. I am assured that I will be comforted by the memories we made and our love we shared for one another. RIP Jake "Turtle" Wikoff. You will forever be in my heart.

Jake was a really close friend of mine. I have so many memories. From Mickeys forties and freestyle battles in my basement that made no sense, to the true honest wisdom he would drop when I needed it. We will see that big warm smile on the other side, brother.

Man, what a bummer...i had not seen or talk to Turtle in a long time but remember him well as being a great guy. He was one of the first guys we filmed with for Moto XXX 1 back in 1994. He turned us on to a lot of riding spots and introduced to many other great riders. A lot of cool stuff written about Jake above. Cool to see so many people remembering him. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Turtle.....

This is a difficult loss for all of us and it's nice to read all the stories about him and how he impacted your lives. He was a dear old friend of mine as well. I knew him since high school and we were roommates about 11years ago. After I moved out we lost touch until Saturday morning when I heard someone walk into my home and say, "Sara." Jake was standing in my kitchen and I ran up to him and gave him several big hugs. He looked so happy and we talked for quite a while. He eventually left and I did as well a couple of minutes later. As I was heading into town (Hollister) I rolled up on the accident on Fairview Rd. I was there, but I wish I wasn't. This has been really hard to absorb and I just wanted to share my story with people who love him as much as I do.
I love you Jake. R.I.P. and thank you for all the wonderful memories.

He will be up there now riding the best track in the clouds, jumping the biggest tabletops and railing the biggest berms.

rest in peace

I met Jake in the early 90's, they moved to the high desert, when my family owned Sunrise Valley Raceway. His mom Kerry became my best friend, her and her husband, Jeff worked for us at the track. I had a roomie, Anna, she became Jakes wife and is the mother of his children. I was in a bad place at one point inmy life and Jake helped me through a lot of hard times, he changed my life, he became a close friend, he introduced me to Brandes, we all hung out at Sunrise. Jake, Casey Johnson, Anthony Pocaroba, Travis Preston, Spud Walters, Brandes, and several others such amazing fun times together. Tuesday & Thursday nights at the Australian Beach Club in San Bernardino haha. I love you Jake very much and am very sad to have gotten the call from Michael that Jake was gone. I lost touch with Jake & Anna when they moved up North, but was happy they found me on FB, so glad to see him a good father and loved his family and all those beautiful babies. I am so sad for Kerry & Jeff, they were a very close family, Jake you will be missed horribly and we all will love you, RIP Jake. Thank you Sierra for posting Kerry's number, I hate to use it for this reason, but am glad to be able to call.

I had to get on here and write something.... I had not know Turtle as long as some of you... I met Turtle in 2002/2003 and became instant friends....we had an instant bond that surrounded a dirt bike along with 40's and some of the other fun things this life brings....lol....anyway the main reason I wanted to get my word out is to tell so many of you that over the years Jake and I became friends, we spent a ton of time together, he was the manager and riding coach for my race team, he was kind on the kids and hard on them at the same time, while making them feel like they could conquer the world, and some of them did....welll the moto world anyway....but spending all that time with Jake as you all know means hearing stories, so above all else....because I could speak all day of what jake meant to me and the times we had, I wanted to tell all of you, especially some of you that hadnt heard from him in a long time....jake has spoken of all of you at some point, about the good times, about the racing, about the crazy nights, or sneaking in and out of places, about how much he cared for all of you in different ways, or the trips to mexico.....I could go, on and on......I just wanted to let you know that if Jake had liked or loved you at some point that he never stopped and he would talk about you and share those memories along the way......RIP and GODSPEED Brother.....you'll be missed......ill still be down like 4 flats brother.......Richie

i met jake 20 years ago with my girl Stacey at one of Joe Newports house parties. My ride was a no-show & Jake was the one to offer me a ride ~ from that day he was a part of me and my dads life. we lost touch and i hadn't seen him in over a decade until about a month ago. that's the thing with jake though, you could go a decade without seeing him but when you did it was like no time had passed at all. he still had that same sparkle in his eye & smile on his face. i loved him and i love his entire family! jake was a natural comedian ~ funniet guy i've ever met! He was charismatic & just knew how to bring the best out in people. i will always admire how down to earth he was & how he loved his peeps for who they were. thank you jake for all the good times i got to share with you & your family!! SO many great memories from back in the day...midnight golf cart rides with Chief, the best laughs with kerry & bustin out the dance moves (ohhh i am SO not a dancer), riding to the races w jeff & kerry, chillin w uncle jimmy in santa cruz & the best visits w g ziena and g grandma in s.j.b just to name a few. My heart is with jakes parents, his children and anna. i am so so sorry...words fail me but please know you are in my thoughts every second of every day. I have never met a pair like jeff & kerry. they truely raised jake giving him everything they had to make his dreams come true & they succeeded. jake lived life to the fullest ~ touched so many hearts along the way, always embracing the beauty life had to offer & still stayed true to who he was. Its hard to not feel cheated that his time wasn't long enough on this earth & for me the only way to find peace w that is knowing we all meet again on the other side. jake said to me more than once (yrs ago) "if you hear this song, think of me!" he was talking about Time Of Your Life by Green Day...so that's what me & my dad did yesterday on repeat for a while. you are SO missed down here jake! SOAR...ride threw the clouds my dear friend!! you are a treasure, thank you for being part of my life!! i will try and stop these tears & replace them w a smile because i know that's what you would want and what you always gaveSmile Much Love!!
