RIP Carl Decotis

I wanted the Moto community to know we lost one of the passionate die-hard Moto riders from New England, Carl "Big Daddy" Decotis. Carl is Jimmy Decotis' father and has a huge family in Peabody, Mass. He was one of the most respected men in all of New England and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Carl was racing at MX 207 when he crashed and broke his leg. He went to the hospital and then was released home but went back to the hospital because he wasn't feeling right. His levels were off and he suddenly passed away. This is all second hand information and all I know.
Carl had a home in Florida and invited anyone that wanted to ride to stay down there and I was lucky enough to spend a winter down there a few years ago and had the time of my life! His support to Jimmy's racing career was unbelievable and I've never met anyone so dedicated to Motocross!
His family was huge and his house on any given day had 20-30 people there to go riding. Jojo Keller was very close to Carl and they raced together for many years at NESC. Carl raced the 50+A class and was a excellent rider. His younger son, Carl Jr. turned Pro in 1998 and raced Unadilla along with Southwick before injuries slowed him down.
Carl is a legend in New England and truly one of the nicest, caring, giving people I've ever met. I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Carl and he lived life to the fullest! He provided his children with a beautiful home and all the resources to follow their dreams.
He will be greatly missed and if I find out anymore information about the wake I will post it up.
RIP: Carl "Big Daddy" Decotis

Oh, man. I know there are other people affected than Jimmy, but losing a dad is gut wrenching. I know, I speak from experience.

Condolences to all and RIP my moto brother.

This is really tragic. Losing somebody in a short time like that, when something routine just snowballs out of control faster than you can know what's happening is so horrible. I've lost healthy, middle aged family members in really fast developments like this and you just feel helpless, and in a daze. Its a weird and awful sort of sadness because you're so blindsided. Gutted for Jimmy and his family. I'll pray they find peace.

My sincere condolences...... my guess would be a blood clot.

In 1983 I broke a bone on my left foot....a day later I passed two blood clots from my foot up and through the heart and into my heart. Both blood clots within a 2 hour period. I was one in one hundred thousand (Twice) per the doctor I visited with the next day.

Again my sincere condolences to the his family

That is horrible! I never had the opportunity to meet any of the family, but fell in love with jimmy's 2 stroke video at the birthday party. After hearing him on DMXS talking about his family, I knew they were good people. I am sorry for the loss!

RIP Carl! I knew him from my days racing the NESC series and from seeing him at the pro races cheering Jimmy on.
He was a great guy and will be missed by a lot of people.

That is terrible news. Carl and I both grew up in Saugus, Mass. We had a makeshift mx track in an abandoned farmers field which is now all houses. I was riding a 1975 CR125 at the time so it must have been 1975 or 76 when Carl got an RM100 and came riding with us for the first time. He really got into MX the years after that.

Terrible news, prayers to Jimmy and the whole family. I'm sure he will be honored somehow by the NESC, he's been around that scene for a very long time.

Lost my dad when I was 18, he had messed his left shoulder up and complained of extreme pain for about 2 weeks in his left arm. He had went to the hospital and they found bone fragments of his shoulder "scattered" around so he definitely messed up something. After about a month, he was going to see his general practitioner the next day for an appointment where he would've been scheduled for surgery or something. He passed away in his sleep the night before his appointment and I found him in his bed dead that morning. Crazy how things can just go so downhill so fast. My dad was only 53 and had plenty of life left in him. I feel that it was a blood clot that killed him in his sleep. He had worked that day and felt dizzy at work and almost passed out, his co workers tried to get him to go to the hospital but he wouldn't...anyways prayers out to this family

I'd like to know what happened just to file it away incase I break something again.

Was it a bloodclot?

From what I understand it was a blood clot. He had crashed on a site lap at MX207 and broke a rib. Spent a couple weeks home sick in bed before seeking treatment. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
