The RC4 stats thread reminded me of something I've been thinking about...

Say RC comes off the couch cold to ride Budd's this weekend. He's a Kawi guy now and AC's bike is unused so that's his ride.

Does he qualify and if so, where? What are the results?

Poll

How would RC do at Budd's Creek this weekend?

Well, he wont come off the couch and race so this is all pointless.

If they still have the former champions rule, he would automatically be in the program, which would be totally awesome.

I thought this was going to be humorous video of him jumping off the couch due to his lack of height....

Dude would be competitive for a while, but the fitness level has clearly gone up in this sport. Not that he couldn't step up, but in his 40s, after 15 years of retirement vs. the progression of the sport? It would be a long, rough day for him. He'd still whoop it up on some privateers though. Earn points? Hmmmm...

Straight off the couch. No prep wakes up tomorrow and says fuck it im racing. Not just riding around but really going into it with a winning modest he's 9-15th for as long as his lungs and muscles last. End up 16-25th.

With a full time race prep im gonna win this title. 5th-10th
Fading to 9 -15th

Nice analysis.

It's an intriguing question to me because of age vs experience and talent. For most of us on here, the older we get the faster we used to be. But RC is the exception. How many on the gate would be psyched out before the gate dropped?

You brought up it he trained...interesting to consider too.

Now, speaking of talent, what about JS7 on AC's bike in this same fantasy scenario? Cool

I agree with most of what you said...but I'll bet RC still rides a lot, and is far better condition (especially after slimming down so drastically) that most think. I don't think he'd run with the guys who regularly do top-5 or even top-10, but he might be up with that bunch for a lap or two.

If its only qualifying, I imagine he could put down a single heater lap that gets him in.

Right, he could probably qualify, but would be gassed after a couple of laps.

Idk, AC222 isn’t terribly far behind him in age and he’s still greasing moto wins in the GPs (that I think everyone here can agree are on a whole new level compared to our tracks).

I doubt it’ll happen, but I’d love to see some former champs put the gloves back and give it a shot.

If he trained all winter and lined up for outdoors on a factory bike. Easy top 10. Lots of of top 5 finishes. Cooper did top 15s when he was 40 on a 300lb pig.

Carmichael is 41.

He's 5 years older than Ryan Sipes, who can still qualify for the main event in SX.

He's 3 years older than Chad Reed was when he made 16 main events last year.

Carmichael looked to be out of shape a few years ago, but he's looking good now. I think he could score a point (top 20) in an MX moto.

I guarantee Ricky is in the best shape he’s been in for the last 5 years.

If he had to qualify......yes, he’s capable of that.

Finishes 35-33 for 34th overall.

He would easily have the single lap pace to qualify top 10. We've seen with plenty of other retired riders that they can still go balls to the wall quick for a lap or two before being gassed, the talent doesn't fade. He's definitely in the best shape he's been in for a while, but that doesn't mean a whole lot given the fitness level required to run with the top dogs, and 2 motos in summer is hard. He could probably grab a top 20 given the field is thinner at this point in the season.

lol, we seen a 16yo kid beat RV in a 125 a few years out of retirement, you think RV or RC could crack the top 20...come on.

I would wager a solid 5 grand on it. No joke. Nick wet busted out a top 20 back in 17 or 18 at red bud. Reed busted out a top 10 off the couch literally for JGR 2-3 years ago on the bike everyone bitches is old and slow. People need to realize the game isn't changing the way it use to. It's not like back in the day when you could see huge leaps in speed from the 70's to the 80's. and then 90's.
