I’ve always wondered how this deal came across Ricky’s desk, does anyone know the story or have a Link of Carmichael talking about this deal and what happened?

Wan't he paid an insane amount that year to wear them? Like $250k? Or am I talking out my ass?

I’m pretty sure he was supposed to make an ass ton of money. Not sure if they held up their end of the deal

Lot of up front cash
Then it all went to hell.

Word was, they weren't the best (or even good) boots on the market

They were made of Kangaroo leather i believe. Don't think the company is Australian though.

I thought they were big in the road racing side of things, leathers and boots etc.

Same company made road racing gear. I was into doing track days back then on SS bikes and it was around, kangaroo, and pretty damn comfortable stuff. I was lucky and never crash tested it though so I don’t know how it would have held up sliding down asphalt.

Somehow I never remember seeing RC wear those back then.

The Kangaroos were Aussie. I think Berik is German?

EDIT: Well, I'll be damned... They are Italian.

I thought I remembered hearing that he was supposed to get a large championship bonus or win bonuses, but they never delivered.

They still owe DV $20,000. They owe me the same. Since it had been 15 years, I am starting to think we might not collect that money.

I had a pair, the plastic around the ankles broke and gave zero support, half the buckles broke, ended up badly spraining my ankle in them when my foot folded backwards through a whoop section. Got a pair of Gaernes after that.

I had some, they didn’t last long. Literally fell apart not long after I started wearing them. Always thought it was so random how that all came about.

Same. Now that Im older, I feel like maybe I thought they were good because Ricky wore them, and not because they were actually good.

Same for me. They didn’t hold up at all. I remember hating the buckles too.

Never tried them, but I've always liked that logo.

But the RC deal...I always liked that it happened. He was the biggest superstar in the sport at the time and he got some hard earned superstar money. It showed that outside-ish interest can boost not only visibility of the sport, but also help bring in some much needed funds.

Monetarily I have no idea what the Stewart/Dungey Nike boot deal was worth, but it smacked of similar outside interests and sponsorships... although Nike never had any intention of selling that specific footwear.

I've got a pair of RC-worn Berik boots. They are in great shape. Got them from Mike Gosseler in about '06. I had them on display with my RC RMZ number plate set. I'd part with them if someone is interested? PM me.

I had a completely different experience from everyone else. I bought two pairs and loved them, and they actually held up for me very well. I was wearing them when I rode more than at any other time in my life (still not on the same level as a lot of people) but I had 0 complaints with them.

I also believe that the MX boots were not made with kangaroo leather, and many thought they would be because Berik typically used kangaroo leather

I believe the Berik MX contracts required disputes, including payment disputes, to be resolved in China according to Chinese law. .

Conceding that I am isolating that issue in a vacuum, but that strikes me as something a good agent should have resisted.

“Good” agent. Seemingly plenty of the latter, but few of the former.

Ya. I actually still have a roadrace suit of theirs. Its nice. Never had their boots though. It seems like they went off the grid pretty quickly.
