At the risk of getting blown out I'm kinda fed up with the ads in my paper Racerx magazine. I'm just wondering how other people feel about it. I used to buy all the magazines as a a kid and still have most of them. I decided I wanted to resubscribe about a year ago as I like having the paper copies. The articles are good for the most part and the photos are great. I especially like the posters that come with most issues. David Bailey and Ron Lechien on the back was pretty awesome.

This comes to my point, the February edition is pretty ridiculous. I did a quick count and out of 190 pages there's only 72 pages of actual content. Additionally there is no POSTER! Instead I literally got the entire KTM power parts catalogue - all 45 pages. I understand that the advertisers have their place and thats where the revenue comes from. However, I also pay for the content. At this point I feel like the balance is out of whack. If the magazine continues this way I will probably not resubscribe.

Are all the magazines the same amount of pages or are the ads just additional pages? 72 pages of actual content seems normal?

I did just count some of the other issues and you are right the content is around 70 pages. I will give them that it's the same amount of content. I still don't want to have to go through 45 pages of effectively spam in a magazine I'm paying for though.

Reason i dont buy magazines. Theyre basically books of advertisements and an interview or poster that i actually want to look at here or there.

It sucks but thats the truth.

I’ll be honest some of the ads are a little much, but I do enjoy the full-page ads that have cool pictures.

Love me some RacerX but I agree, I don't want to rifle through the KTM parts catalog insert. I didn't count the pages myself but it makes the other content seem lesser. I think MXA runs the Pro-Circuit insert once a year as well.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe a magazines main source of revenue lies with its advertisers not it's subscribers. I'll still continue to subscribe, no biggie!

DC Bring back the free poster. My son was pretty disappointed when there wasn't a poster in the last magazine. That's what gets put up in the garage. The magazine get stored in a box under the stairs.

If you consider all the adds for FOX and pro circuit and FMF and other MX related advertising to be spam, then you are in the wrong sport. Now if the adds were all women's shoes and cooking ideas you would have a point but most MXers like to see the new gear and exhaust systems and other moto related items and not all of us spend all day on the internet so a MX magazine is the way to go.

I have subscribed four years to multiple off road motorcycle magazines. I have at least 1,300 different. I DO NOT mind the ads. I would live to have a 45 page Kawasaki or Yamaha ad. As I flip past the 45-page KTM ad, I can still say thank you for keeping a print magazine going and not $10 an issue.

I have been buying MX magazines for the last 40 years. I still have a lot of them stored away.
Back in the 80’s and 90,s MXA for example would have the full catalogs from JT, FOX etc in their issues.
especially the December issue.
I have the January 2007 issue of Racer X, sitting in front of me, it’s 308 pages, 159 pages are advertisements.
They keep the magazines going.
I’m not complaining.
The KTM insert it the latest RacerX was great, but then I race KTM’s.

I made the mistake of renewing for 2 years. Should've done it one at a time because you only get free stuff with the renewal no matter how long it's for. 😉

Could the ratio of ads to content be partly due to the fact that it's the offseason, and there's just not much to write about?

Without those ad’s there would be no racer x, vital, swap Moto live, pulp mx ect. So I don’t mind the ad’s in exchange for some kickass content!

I didn't mind it, it reminded me of the old JT and DG ads. They were cool. I remember one with Bob Hannah with all the 'Hurricane' stuff. It was badass.

But it's actually my son's subscription, so I asked him and he said he liked it.
As a side note he stays busy enjoying the crossword puzzle as we drive to the track, and learns some interesting moto facts.
