Quiet exhaust?

10/14/2019 8:04am Edited Date/Time 6/16/2020 1:07pm
Just hopped back on my 450 yesterday and the stock exhaust is extremely loud. I ride my gas bikes with earplugs but my right ear is still ringing after 3 30min motos. Can anyone recommend ways to quiet the bike down? Is there an aftermarket exhaust out there for the 2012-2015 KX450 that is much quieter than stock?

Literally any aftermarket pipe is quieter than stock kawi pipes. Ive got a PC Ti5 on mine and its pretty quiet.

FMF RCT 4.1 with spark arrestor will quiet it down.

Try repacking the can with Bristol Core or Silent Sport material.

FMF’s Q4 is probably the best choice for reducing noise. I believe they claim under 94 dbs for most models.

When I had a YZ450, I had the PC exhaust on it.
They included a spark-arrestor insert (a cone made out of wire-mesh screen).

That little insert made the bike much more pleasant on the ears, plus it actually helped the power delivery at initial crack of the throttle on that bike which was terrible on that 2014 model.

Without the insert the PC silencer seemed slightly quieter than the stock Yamaha one.

I’ve heard an Alta muffler fits right on that bike and it’s super quiet! 😂

Euro manufacturers are leading the charge in quiet with power with their tighter exhaust levels for many years in GP.

https://www.akrapovic.com/en/moto/product/20574/Kawasaki/KX-450-F/2019/…

Power
+2.3 kW at 10650 rpm

Torque
+2.2 Nm at 10650 rpm

Weight
-1.2 kg

Our exhaust systems meet FIM noise limits, feature a more durable welded bracket and titanium end cap.

Tried one of these when I had a 250F and was surprised how it cut the sound note down.

I got an FMF 4.1 RCT slip on for my new 19 KX450 before I even rode it. Did the same on my 16. Sounds way better.
Kawasaki's are loud and annoying stock! They sound like they need repacked. The 250's are bad as well.

I used to have a Pro Circuit Ti-6 Pro on this bike and it was a little quieter. I'd prefer to go quieter if possible. My goal is to make the bike as quiet as possible. The bike has a high compression piston and hotcams so i can afford to lose 1 or 2 hp due to a choked up exhaust.

I'm not seeing a FMF Q4 Hex available for the 2012-2015 KX450f. Does anyone know if 09-11 KX450f mufflers fit the 12-15? I see other exhausts available that list 09-15 KX450.

if you really wanna go quiet you could mod an husqvarna fe or ktm exc muffler from an 450 or 500. they are super good. but the easy and best way will be fmf q4. thats the way i will go on my2018 kx450f or an mod ktm silencer

If we only count moto/performance exhaust, no i don't think so. Akra is the way to go.

This. if you want it super stealthy look for a stock, unmodified EXC muffler. These are super quiet and light weight. The KTM EXC mufflers have a unique chamber design, and if you find an un-molested stocker, it will also have a noise suppression disc on the back.

FMF is the choice in the US for quiet exhaust.

Today I was at a road race team’s shop. They were eyeing my ‘19 KTM 450 SXF...
“What does it sound like?”
So, I started it.
“Damn! That’s quiet!”

FMF 4.1 RCT w/ the Sparky installed. I race it that way, too. Sooooo quiet.

With you, TG, I'm not always sure if you are serious, or being sarcastic ............Woohoo

But, if indeed you are fair dinkum, I bet it still , sounds Great. A bike doesn't need to sound obnoxious, to sound lovely.

My CRE500, with my 26"Long muffler I made, so I don't attract attention in places that I've ridden in for over 45 years, is almost silent at low revs, which is what is used in my tight single track, but, it sounds nice and deep, like a 500 should, at higher revs, without being an ear destroyer. Though, you can never get rid of the "bucket of bolts", "Crack Crazed Chook Cackle" that a Big 2t has, under no load..........Whistling

I really do run the quiet insert/spark arrested. Even rode it at Hollister Hills State Park on Sunday.
Quiet is good for my ears!

I want to ride your CR!

I had the 4.1 on my 17 KXF and with the insert put in and clean it really quiets the bike down. Best bang for the buck IMO.

Dang, that insert cuts out 10db. That’s pretty good!

My KTM 500 came with an aftermarket exhaust. The very first thing I did was find a new, unused 500 EXC-F take off muffler on ebay. The one I bought still has the round sound disc in the very back too. It's pretty quiet but really any 450/500 will be a bit louder due to the larger amount of exhaust gasses.

I had no use for more power on a 500. With the stock constricted exhaust, I have all I need and more.
