Curious why they don’t use this method for MX instead of a complete restart which is massively unfair for the race leaders? Anyone know if they’ve considered adopting for outdoors?

It is to do with amount of laps completed in SX because there is no room.MX offers plenty of space so red flag usually only comes at the start.Everything else yellow or red cross.Imho.Not really sure and a bit foggy brained right now.

They should implement it for sure. A complete rerack and start with ten minutes left in the race is silly. A rider 20 seconds in the lead can be forced to start again. So dumb. Of course their lead will be lost, but you've gotta at least keep the positions the same.

Appreciate the reply but that wasn’t really my question. 1) Red flags can occur at any point in either series. 2) MX has similar rules regarding if red flag occurs at start of race vs later in the race. The difference being in mx even if it happens well into the race all riders still have to return to the gate. Gate picks are determined by race position but aside from that everything else is essentially eraser and replaced by a shortened race.

Just seems like a massive injustice that could be easily resolved by adopting the Supercross procedure...

MX Restart Procedure
a. In the case of a false start (gate malfunction or other contributing factor) a race will be restarted with the riders returning to their original Starting Gate positions.
b. Should a race be stopped after one (1) full lap is complete, the race will be restarted using the original staging positions for that moto. If a race is stopped after two (2) full laps are complete, the riders will be staged based on their positions the lap prior to the red flag. The restart will resume for the time remaining of the 30-minute race. The restart will take place as soon as possible and within a maximum time of 10 minutes, providing track conditions allow.
c. Should a race be stopped after 20 or more minutes have elapsed, the race will be considered complete, and finishing positions will be determined by a rider’s position on the lap the race is stopped, as opposed to track positions in the lap preceding the red-flagged lap.

My thought exactly. Having your gap erased sucks but is manageable. Having your lead essentially thrown out completely and replaced by a 10min race just seems assinine, especially considering the potential impact on a championship worth millions of dollars to a rider... It’d be one thing if there was simply no better method but there’s a proven and obvious one already in use in the sport today. i.e. SX
