In the 3rd race it appeared that Tomac was faster than Barcia, who appeared to be faster than Dungey, but couldn't find a way past. Early in the race Tomac took the joker lane which I thought was really smart. He didn't lose any positions and it gave him some distance to close back up on the leaders and then when they took the joker lane he would inherit the lead.....without ever having to pass them...........
RC didn't like the move and Emig did.......RC gave a little of his "how many championships you got" attitude to Jeff.....which I think is unprofessional.......and it turned out to be a great strategic move.
When I heard about the Joker Lane I thought it was a hokey idea.......now I think it would be great if all SX races had it.

The Shop
Great for Vegas to play odds. ?
Not safe for every round if the riders are running in a train behind the leader in a pack they would have to signal if they were going to run the joker line, I didn't see any riders last night taking the line signaling to turn.
MEC was a good test, but better camera placement would be needed for all the extra work to make it more dramatic on TV.
Well done!!
It did serve the same function as the pace car in Nascar. The yellow flag/pace car bunches up the field and prevents a kind of boring situation where no one is close enough to challenge the leader.
I think as a one-time thing during the year, it's interesting. But it does edge more toward the entertainment side rather than the true racing side. Same goes for the split starts.
Pit Row
The invention of sx racing in the early 70's was to attract more people to mx because there wasn't enough spectator interest in outdoors racing.
That said, seeing it's intent, it worked great for this one-off event. Split start needs to go though. In the second amateur moto, whoever got fender tapped by McElrath's rear wheel when he sailed over the right lane off the start berm must have made his seat a little more slippery.
Could be even better if you had to do the joker lane twice in a 20 lap main.
Anaheim-Room
Chase Staduim-Not much room
Dodger Stadium-Room
San Diego-Room
Oakland-Room (Yes, there's room. They don't use the whole floor, there...)
Dallas-Room
Atlanta-Difficult
St. Louis-Dunno
Daytona-Pullllease!
Indy-Room
Toronto-Forget it.
Houston-Room
Minn-Dunno
Seattle-Room
Salt Lake-Maybe
Vegas-Room
So...12-13 of 17 races...NO SWEAT!
Hey, it could happen...and riders would have something to say about it!
Take out all the media and sponsor signage and photographer sections (to keep existing lanes the same size) and I might agree with you.
I liked the joker lane. I liked playing strategy and also as a fan trying to figure it out. But if you think feld is going to give up signage and sponsorship product placed on the track for these sections I think we both know the answer to that.
I would hate to see the quality of a track suffer to try to cram in a entertainment section.
Damn, that sux!
Damn Corporation wrecking everything and tryin' to make "profits"!
Pffft!
Screw this.
It's time we have a Protest!
I say we set up camp at Angel Stadium on New Years and make shit get real...Screw the 1%!
We want ours!
As to the use of "All of the Floor": For whatever reason, more than a few venues have a good portion of the floor 'not in Use'...especially Oakland
