pro: 4 strokes you mix the gas,
pro: two strokes just runs pump gas
pro: 4 strokes are historically treasured in our humble community.
pro: 4 strokes have been around since year 1792
pro: 2 strokes are really quiet and you can ride them on the highway

con: Both are very cheap to maintain

|

2/23/2021 11:34 AM

Pros:
They rule
They sound like they rule
Easy to work on
Cheaper to work on (rebuild)
light/nimble
Power to weight ratio

Cons:
A lot of people don't know how/ care to learn to jet carburetors properly
They dance around on choppy/rough tracks more than a 4-stroke
Easier to pull a Brandon due to a narrower power delivery compared to 4-stroke

|

2/23/2021 11:46 AM

Pros: 2 strokes truck, 4-strokes suck.

Cons: 2-stroke riders have sore arms from fighting off all the hot chicks, all day long. And need new shoes because they wear their old ones out from kicking everyone's ass, all the time.

|

Braaapin' aint easy.

Ive gone backwards and forwards the past few years and to sum it up:
They’re Skiddish and shit to ride on anything other than good conditions, apart from the nostalgi of the noise and smell and fun feeling of going fast when your actually not, one definitely shouldn’t be your main steed.

|

2/23/2021 12:59 PM

Pro: They make you want to ride.
That's all you need to know.

Seriously, though, 4-strokes are faster. So is a funny car, but I wouldn't want to race one on a Motocross track. It would handle even worse than a 450F would.

4-stroke 450- clear big jumps at 3000 RPM.
Two-stroke- clear big jumps at 13000 RPM (much more impressive sounding).

2 strokes would save our sport, honestly. they're harder to ride, require much more precision, are cheaper, and slow the riders down. ALL things that we all beg for week over week while watching the 10th place guy in the LCQ do the same rhythm as the main event winner. 2 strokes required crazy precision which is not necessary as much any more.

Get off my lawn.

Your 150 is fine, dude

If I had to summarize it I'd say way more fun but also more dangerous especially on a 250 and even more so if you are really light guy. Get a 125 to 150 if its your first one imo.

If I had to get detailed I'd say they require more precision as someone else stated. It's easy to give it too much throttle and get tossed back on your ass, sometimes it feels like they almost have a mind of their own but in reality I understand that I'm just not a good enough precision rider for them. Also its real easy to overshoot jumps on a 250 smoker. I've injured myself more on my 16 250sx than on every other bike combined in my 32 years of riding, and I grew up riding two strokes from a 60 to 80 to 125 so I'm not a noob. I definitely enjoyed riding it more than a 4 stroke but my next 2 stroke which is coming soon will be a 150! I still own a yz250 but its toned down woods bike with a flywheel weight, alot easier to handle on the track than the 250sx was!

Pros - Big grin ear to ear.. w00t
Cons - I can’t think of any in 4 decades of smoking 2 smoke oil.. tongue

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

2/23/2021 4:24 PM

I will say this, Kid

Two stroke is WAY LESS EXPENSIVE to repair if you blow it up.
Upkeep is cheaper too

Pros: Learn to ride one fast and you will be a better rider, even on a 4-stroke.

Cons: Your friends will get jealous.

First time I rode a cr250 2T I looped it out with two much throttle in some whoops. Never smiled so much falling!

|

2/23/2021 4:53 PM

I used to race a lot at a fairly decent level, I got over racing, the money spending, labour intensive rebuilds, doing valve clearances etc etc
Sold my race bike and bought an 07 kx250 and decided just to ride for fun..
My love of Moto was completely reborn, I can’t recommend the switch enough - unless of course you are trying to line up for a national..
DO IT! 💨 💨

Haha, reminds of when I was about 14. A older kid had a old yz250 with ice studded tires for sale. I stop and say hey cool bike can I ride it. His house was on a hill on a river. I fire it up, the thing won’t rev up, smoking like crazy, rich jetting for winter. This is in summer, I kept gassing and clutching it. Then it hit, looped out let go of the bars, bike is screaming wide open, back tire tears my hand open. I,m sliding across the grass, watching the bike take out a 10 ft pole with a big bird feeder on top. Haha

Pros: More fun, bigger smile under the helmet.
I ride for fun. 2 Stroke it is.

It is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT to ride a 2 stroke fast.

You have to learn how to "keep it on the pipe"
The power will not be a tractor off the bottom like your four stroke.
When a two stroke hits that power, for anyone not familiar, it'll feel like a light switch.

THAT IS THE CON TO A TWO STROKE

It is harder to go fast.
It is the best education in going fast you'll ever get, everyone should do it.

But don't think it's easier, it's not.

The reason a lot of people go from a two stroke to four is because it's easier to go faster on a four stroke.
