Pro age rule, youth wasted? Kitchen and Kilroy aren’t the only fast guys in the amateurs.

Youthful bodies, mindset and speed wasted on LL’s. DQ’s for being too young. Let the kids race with the Pro’s again.

I think it’s fine at 16. Id rather it be 18 but they have a few kids ready at 16.

Kitchen is a late bloomer…and really shouldn’t be included in this conversation…last year was the first he really took it serious and he won the B Limited classes, skipped the regular B class this year went straight to A and then turned pro…He’s not anything like the others that have had factory rides since they got on 65’s…it’s also why he’ll probably have greater success that most others

That’s not cheap to do. Most could not afford to do that

Less to do about the rule and more to do with the "system" of amateur races (4-5 "big" races each year)

How much for an American to run that entire series? At least into the 6 digit range? 7 digits?

Nationals are not cheap either. In April 5 gallons of fuel they use was 199.00. I won’t even make that today, waiting to unld in Larado. Sunday was ok, 682 mi x .80=545.60

No just bored waiting for lazy people in Larado to get some work done. Everyone is all about the rider , reality is the rig at the races creates much more money in advertising revenue. Even general freight a truck can make 6,300 a day. 2.29 million a yr

If the amateur motocross scene in America wasn’t such a joke there would be a full 12 race series for 85 125 and 250f riders running along side the pro motocross nationals

Aren't they 19 and 20 though? What Pro age rule was keeping them from racing sooner?

What does the age matter? If you can get a solid 10 year career you’re doing great. If they start at 16 they retire by 26 like RC, Villo, Dunge, etc.

If they start late they can go later. I’d love to see someone break through as a rookie at like 25 and ride till their 35 like a modern day Junkyard dog.

Point is - who cares how old they are when they start, what matters is their career and the impact they make and for most, that age varies.

They aren’t the only fast amateurs. History is full of under 16 phenoms. KR94 won a GP at 15.
USA and the sport would prosper from kids getting off of mini’s asap.

Seems like Kitchen is turning pro when he is ready to, same goes for Justin Cooper. Come to think of it the young pros have been getting chewed up and spit out, while the "older" guys have been having success. Jett Lawrence just turned 18 and even he doesn't have any titles yet.

Tell me about all of these 15 year old phenoms. Millsaps missed a couple of SX rounds waiting to turn 16, who else? The age rule has almost zero impact on pro motocross.

That's fine. My question was what does the Pro age rule have to do with it? Even having it set at 16 you're still not getting hardly anyone turning pro at 16. Do you really thinking changing it to 15 it would really make a difference?

The pro age rule is fine. Maybe the amateur system is what needs looked at.

The Lawrence bro’s didn’t hide from competition in the Pro’s, they dove into the deep end to learn. It’s working.

How would we know? If they can cut the lap times let them in. The golden years are fleeting, injuries and economics keep most out. Most are too afraid of losing their amateur status.

Hunter Lawrence was 17 in his first pro (MX2) race.

Tripes and others have beaten the world’s best with no driver’s license. Why prevent the next Stewart or RC from lining up?

Who was the last pro to win a title under the age of 18? Who is holding them back from turning pro at 16? Complaining that a rider can't turn pro at 15 is a fucking stupid argument.

Is there someone out there that currently can’t line up due to the rule?

If a rider can compete in the top 10 1st race they were held back too long IMO. They don’t have to win a championship for it to be so.
I’d bet 10-20 LL riders could qualify for a national.

Ask someone what it truly costs to race Lorettas and you’ll probably find emx125 is the cheaper option.

10-20?….come on you can’t be serious….What’s changed is the number of riders getting paid as amateurs and the teams are making the decisions as to what classes and when the rider is going to go pro, not the rider or their families.
Because of this you have kids staying longer than they did before.
