On a practice day at the track, how do you guys approach it....

3 x 20 min motos or similar?
Break the track down into sections and focus on a section at a time?
Focusing on proper technique?
Dedicate any time to doing laps at a higher than usual intensity?
Spend any time analysing other riders for technique or lines?
Keep track of lap times or heart rate etc?
Dedicate days or sessions to bike setup?

Any of the above or any methodology you'd like to share. Perhaps you get carried away racing some random spode and blow your energy in the first lap or two.

Either way, let's hear it.

I usually just ride as much as I can. That doesn't always mean 20 min motos, but as long as I feel safe on the track. Sure I try to focus on proper technique all the time while riding. In between motos I like to spectate, especially if there are some faster riders.

I cross train motocross practice for harescramble endurance so my first ride is generally 2-3 hours non stop at race pace. If it's 3 hours I'll take gas as to not die taking off on a jump face.

After that I may take an hour or two break and work on a particular section or set of fun jumps to mix it up for the rest of the day.

On a practice day I will go out the first couple laps and learn the track in case it changed or it's somewhere new, then I build up my speed each lap until I'm full speed and I try to stay at that pace as long as I can and finish that moto off with a couple of cool down laps bringing my pace down each lap.

As far as moto 2, 3 and 4 go, I treat those as if they are races on Sunday. Wide open as long as I can go for. Sometimes I'll throw in a few 5 or 6 lap sprints since local races usually don't go more than 5 or 6 laps(unless you race REM).

After my 4 motos are done I'll usually go back out with one of my slower buddies and try to push them out of their comfort zone to help build up their speed. I'll usually do some goon riding behind them too. Everyone spectating usually enjoys that lol

I focus on technique, the more you duplicate proper technique, the more it becomes a new habit that doesn't have to be remembered.

I also have a list of bad habits I review before a ride day.

I uesd to do a sprint lap and add 20% to it and do laps at that pace trying to perfect my technique. When I could do a moto keeping that lap time I would change the percentage to a lower percent. When you can do lapps at a real consistent pace your sprint lap speed will increase and the cycle continues.

Slow to medium warm up for 2-3 laps, then water, chain lube, clean goggles. Once the heart rate goes back down, I hit it like a motocross race: 5 or 6 laps (depending on the track and what series/event I may be training for) at full race speed, then off the track for a half hour or so. Then another 5-6 lap moto at full race speed.
I'll then use the rest of my day alternating between sprints and playriding. I'm a vet, so I'm usually tired out after about 20 laps, and that's my goal.

I find the biggest jump on the track go for it first lap, and usually end up casing the shit out of it. Spend the rest of the day blowing out berms and doing wheelies on the straight aways.

When I'm driving and I see gnarly hills I hold my hand up and make these killer braaaaping sounds ... sometimes if it's a bitchen section I get to do some whoops. Don't even ask how inverted my whips are. Best part ..... I never crash. Ever.
