unfortunately they dont make Larsen TTs in 27.5 or 29

one of my favorite tires in the rear when I was on 26"

maxxis crossmark or even a maxxis ardent..rolls pretty good but has some decent tread....or try a continental X-king

I do allot of pavement climbing but then ride down burly trails...run a maxxis highroller 2 front and either an ardent or x-king rear

dont buy vee rubber or kenda tires

I don't know anything about the vee rubber. But what's your reasoning on kenda? I have used kenda and currently have the maxxis holy roller on my dirt jumper, in addition to hutchisons, continentals, panaracers, WTB's on my MTB, so I have no bias. I just have been really pleased with the kenda and would like some more info on why you say not to buy them?
Crappy tread patterns/sidewalls/rubber compounds...there are allot better tires out there..I honestly cant remember the last time Ive seen someone running one...their sponsored racers usually just run blacked out maxxis

If you are riding gnarly terrain but still pedal to the top maxxis exo tires are hard to beat..continentals "protection" sidewall is like 280tpi..im running one in the rear right now but its too stiff..I also killed their "black chili" compound in 5 rides...I had better luck with their regular compound/sidewall which can be had for cheap

I guess we can agree to disagree. While I trust that the maxxis is a great tire (like I said, used em before), my own experience with the kendas has been great and we have our fair of "gnarly" terrain here, too. If they aren't your cup of tea, that's fine. No hard feelings on my part. For the record, I still stand by them for what peely is looking for.

I suppose all brands have good tires now. For average riding I would ask the local bike store. When you start to get more serious I would start buying tires with the softer compounds. Maxxis had some really nice compounds a while back that stuck like glue on everything! Also, in general, I would get an agressive, wider, tire in the front and a good rolling tire in the back.

Here's my bike I ride now. I just got back into riding again. It does good on pretty much all terrain from DJ to DH to XC! The fork kind of holds it back but for $625 I can't complain!

Agreed. Maxxis are good, but typically fairly heavy. I'm currently running a High Roller II in front and an Ardent in back - they're pretty solid and holding up well (in the UT rocks). But pricey.

I will likely switch back to the Continental Mountain King II, front and rear, pretty soon. Performance is good and much lighter.

Too add, Kendas and Vee Rubber are just fine. Vee Rubber tires are made in Thailand and I've heard a lot of good things about their moto tires, and I would assume MTBs are made to the same standards, but I have not tried them myself yet.

Very cool. I like it dude. Love the little details like the chris king headset. Chainstay looks nice and short, too. Pretty easy to get the front wheel off the ground? I'll try and dig up a picture of my dirt jumper. I have a KHS DJ but hard ever ride it anymore. Kids and by business have my ass behind a desk more than on the trails these days. I run the holy rollers on my DJ and on my 24" bmx bike. Currently have some Hutchison's on my Intense xc bike and the kendas on the 29er single speed

It's a long bike and pretty hard to manual. I bought it back in 2000 for a Slalom bike and it worked awesome for that! I only use it for BMX now, and I'm probably just going to sell it. Honestly, that Raleigh that I have, with 27.5" wheels, jumps better and fits me better than my Gack.

The Gack is really sweet though. Besides the obvious, I added more trick Profile bits since this picture. I put on a regular BMX 1-piece chainring, some chain adjusters and a few little anodized bits to match the Profile stuff. I also have a Profile Ti bottom bracket on this bike as well, which has lasted since 2000!

Damn, that's getting some life out of a bottom bracket. Especially under abuse.

I'm pretty good to my equipment. I've never taco'd a wheel on that bike either. The bottom bracket is 4 sealed bearings and the shaft is about 1/2" diameter solid Ti, so it should last another 15 years!

This is my Cannondale Trail5! Just got it a few weeks ago. I do wear a helmet btw, this pic was taken the first day I got it. Here's some goodies I got on the mail yesterday. Easton Havoc 1.5" stem, Sette bar ends & Wellgo pedals. This is a Scwhinn Mesa I picked up for my wife the same day. I'm just getting back into Mtn biking & I'm loving it. Once I get better, I'll upgrade to a full suspension bike.

A good tire setup I found was the Maxxis Ardent 2.25 (rolls good) on the rear and Schalwbe Hans Damph 2.35 on the front (grips well and still only weights 760 g)

Anyone remember white porcupine tires? I ran those on the Mammoth Downhill way back in the day. Had great grip on that dirt, of course that came with the fact they wore down hella fast.

Gwin has been very fast this year, bummer that his tire came off in Austria.

My old Gary Fisher, Hoo Koo E Koo, I get attached to stuff and can't get rid of it. I may put an gas engine on it.

My Dad's new bike. He hit 75 this year, still rides though.

Thanks, ya he crashed bad a few years ago and has plates under his knee, also broke his hand. Two tours in Nam and 9 plane crashes, tons if other stuff and that was his first broke bones. He crashed last month while I was right behind him, front wheel washed out and he hit like a sack of taters. Didn't hurt him but scared shit out of both of us. Heck man I'm 50 now and need to slow down, if I crash bouncing through them trees it's gonna suck! We got a pretty easy trail, it flows really well if anyone ever gets around Montgomery and want to ride some.
