How does this happen to a top pro? He's a complete non factor. He was literally riding around sitting down looking at the leaders lapping him. There comes a point when you wonder how Yamaha feels about paying him. Ya, i get it...."he's a nice guy, don't be a hater"...but dang is he bad.
The Shop
And while he was a top pro on a 250, he hasn't really been able to make that a reality on the 450 as he might be the least good of any racer with a factory ride.
I have to wonder about the bikes.
Was he simply on the best bike during his 250 days?
And is he now on a bike he just doesn't jell with?
I'm a Yamaha fan, but the big YZ hasn't had the greatest track record lately - aside from the occasional win that Barcia pulls out on one. But then even he normally goes back to at least off the podium if not outside the top 5.
And we all know what the #1 plate holder did his 1st year off the big YZ.
I'm drawing a blank on who the last rider was to be a consistent podium contender on a YZ450.
Maybe 2021 will be extra incentive for Mr. Plessinger as he isn't signed beyond that, right?
But AP's defense, that track played to none of his strengths. No ruts, no mud, not rough. It was the last place in the world you'd expect him to shine. I hope the tracks get better for the next 6 rounds.
I kind of am still hoping for that sloppy mud race where Plessinger comes out on top - and then hopefully a big boost of confidence with much better results.
That said, I can see them adding a 3rd bike.
Pit Row
Unfortunately the economy's hit may not help for a 3rd bike unless it is a Gas Gas (which would be great!).
So far I see Bogle calling it a day. Frustrating because I think he could be top 5 top 8 but the big crash while someone cross jumped him unintentionnally killed his momentum and it seems he didn't recover. I really wish him well because concussions should be taken seriously.
Maybe the salary won't be great and a trade with Barcia's ride is not impossible. I still think it would be a better deal to sign with RMATV because there are more probabilities to score results than on the yzf. I am yam fan but that is just painful to watch their 450 effort. DV would be a huge asset to this team.
Then I think Cooper is on the top of list to replace Musquin the day he retires.
Yet fourth through seventh were less than a second off Eli's fastest time. It's kind of weird.
I personally think Ferrandis will be on a factory bike. I don't see him riding for a factory supported team like RMATVMC.
I'm with you on Bogle. I wouldn't be surprised to see him call it a career and move on to other things.
Yamaha would be smart to keep Cooper. Younger and more upside than McElrath.
