Hi fellow Vitalers,

My startup business has a chance to win $100,000 in a competition that was hosted by the State of Nevada. Out of 232 entrants, the business my friend and I have been working on since November 2011 has become 1 of 12 finalists to win the money. It has now gone to a public vote and we could really use all your help to make us a reality.

Our startup is Hotlap.co, a tech company that utilizes the existing GPS technology in your smartphone or GPS unit and tracks your performance as you recreate, train, or race. Many of you here are familiar with our soon to be competitors including Garmin Connect and some here use Strava for cycling/mountain biking as well. We aren't necessarily inventing the wheel here, but our supplemental services go above and beyond what they offer. Here is a brief informative video we had put together that explains what Hotlap.co is (and you can see how it is moto related):

We have a lot of great things in the pipes that will not only help each of you but also privateers trying to make it to the big show. The first thing is we really need this money to help us get our idea created. We have a very talented programmer who is on board but needs money to provide for his family. If you feel inclined, you can vote with all your devices including computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. (if the blue voting widget doesn't show up directly to the right hand side then scroll down and it most likely is pushed towards the bottom of the page). Thank you all for your help. Truly means the world to us.

Best of luck to you. It is always nice to see some new products offered to our market made by actual participants. It looks to be interesting and useful.

I like what you guys are doing. I voted and also posted the video and links on MotoXAddicts.com and our Facebook page. I don't know if I did it right, but I sent you a message to your Vital account. Good luck guys.

As a purist, I think it would be interested to calculate the time between line choices.

Otherwise, the "No Equipment Maintenance Tracking" part is where the money is, it is good idea for the automotive big names as well as car maintenance companies.

Again as a purist again Smile , I would be interested to know exactly as what speed I need to hit a jump according to the angle and suspension setting, that could avoid some overjumps.

We definitely plan on moving into the automotive market once we have a solid foundation under our feet. We are also working on something I can't reveal yet but it will let you calculate line choices down to the inside and outside of a single corner.

Thanks again everyone. The voting lasts until June 21 so this will be the longest month ever.

So it's an application on a smartphone (or GPS) that keeps track of your time (or laps, etc.). But to do that I need to have the smartphone with me while riding (like 0:45 in the youtube video). Who wants to do that? A crash, mud, dust, vibrations, ... could easily damage your smartphone (which cost a lot!). I can't see anyone taking the risk to be honest. I like the idea but I think it's flawed.

Still voted because I like the initiative!

And If i'm not mistaken, there are some applications on the market just like this (and free)?

The protection of the smartphone and GPS unit is a valid concern and we are currently in the process of designing something for their protection. The ideal GPS is one that is mounted on the bike, but a large amount of the pros are riding with GPS capable watches and using them as Heart Rate Monitors. We haven't had any issues during testing with people carrying their devices in armbands, mounted to the bike, and various other spots.

Also our service is unprecedented in this industry and has a free plan as well. We will be divulging in the complete features we will offer very soon with posts on Hotlap.co. It will answer how and why we will be better than everyone currently in the market.
