So I been riding Honda 450 4strokes for the last 10+ years and decided I wanted to go back to my roots of the good ole 2 strokes. I been eyeing up the TC250 and 250SX since they did the redesign in 2017. I found a good deal on a used 2018 TC250 with only 8 hours. Has a PC pipe combo and JD Jet kit on it too. I am pretty excited to get this thing on the track and test it out but have to wait a bit longer up here in PA. I did take it for a very short run down the road in 2nd gear when I got home and have to say I love it so far. Here are a couple pics of it...not the best of pics...just cell phone pics at night when I got it home.
Congrats. 2 strokes are awesome.
Why was the guy getting rid of the bike? I mean 8 hours is nothing. His loss, your gain.

I'm now the happy owner of a 17 YZ250f, and I felt comfortable from the get go. Feel like a bit of a sellout, but for me racing has to be about what I can do the best laps on. I still have two stroke vintage bikes.
Sorry to be a downer, I'm still a bit disappointed this bike didn't work out for me, because I really wanted it to! Hopefully you will have a better fit!
As a 45 year old Vet. B, rider I also liked the green spring at 1.5. It has a 500 rpm longer opening duration. This bikes biggest problem is breadth of usable power. With stock gearing and pipe, it was even worse.
If you search on here, some guys are experimenting with slides and jetting and seem to be making progress as well. I ended up with a 37.5 pilot, but I did it at the same time as the fatty pipe so it's hard to say what really made the difference. I feel like they dropped the ball, this bike really should have had more torque and more usable power from the factory.

Congrats on the bike man you're going to love it. I just installed a fmf power core and factory pipe on my 17' but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
But that's what soured me the more I found myself tinkering with it... I drop $6K + on a bike, and now I have to start a science experiment to try and get it to run like a 250 and not a big 125?!? I am fine with tailoring suspension, but things like squish and jetting and compensating for bad gear ratios (feels like a 125 tranny) shouldn't be something the consumer has to fix at that price point, just to make it ride-able.
I also feel like MXAs review of this bike wasn't very critical or thorough - maybe because they were just happy it was a redesigned two stroke in 2017.
Maybe they'll get the power dialed when they switch to EFI.

OP I do apologize for the negativity, bikes are like women, some of them we get along with some of them we can't stand, and it all depends on our own preferences. I do hope she's "the right girl for you" and that you have a lot of fun! And if this bike was a girl.... she'd definitely be the one doing shots and dancing on the bar, not the one picking up the kids in the minivan!!
