I just rode a open practice yesterday. After my pour performance I’d like to think the KX250f would be all I need. Lol
Price point is perfect for poverty stricken income.??

I like Yamaha's approach. Keep the weight centered and low.

$9400 for a 250F holy fudge. I stand by my statement in another thread. This sport is on a death spiral and soon to be only for the rich or those in massive amounts of debt.

I love the bike, love spring forks (definitely just dropped $1100 on a spring conversion for my 2017 KTM) but I'd rather buy a 2018 KX250F for $6500 OTD all day long than spend $9300 on this bike. Jeez!!!

Ok...so I just went back and re-read the price tag and noticed the "ADM" or added dealer mark up...do you guys out west see that consistently? My understanding is the MSRP includes the mark up. The fine print at the bottom says the price excludes tax and doc fees, this bike will be 10k OTD...F that.

A shop in Wilmington NC that is now out of business tried that on me in 2004/2005 on a YZ125. The OTD price on that bike ended up being $6600, I walked out...the next week I bought a brand new YZ250F for $5510 OTD from Yamaha of Lumberton.

The dealers in AZ try to pull that crap all day, advertise it $500-2000 off MSRP and then when you ask for OTD its fee's beyond belief. I always just go out of state. If your riding MX you shouldn't be paying sales tax, fees, etc. one number and done.

Lumpy I'm aware but what I see in NC is you have Shop A that will tack fees on the back end, or Shop B that advertises a price and charges sales tax.

My question is this BS ADM number that appears out of nowhere. The shops I've dealt with take the MSRP, subtract the rebate that's out, add sales tax, BOOM that's your OTD price.

I think its a dumbass tactic given the availability of technology and the amount of research we do before we purchase. I suppose you have a guy who walks into a shop every once in a while who doesn't know anything about motocross and is sold on something but I would assume you see that more with dad's buying play bikes/quads for their kids, or road bike riders.

There are dealers out there that don't use the ADM nonsense. Price is OTD.

Really? News to me...

You can't get away with not paying tax, registration, etc. on a vehicle. Different story for MX if you plan on only using it on the track/private property. For example NJ most motocross bikes are considered illegal for use off road or on road and cannot be registered, plated, etc. Thus you can purchase one from a different state and never have to pay tax or registration, etc. And besides the dealer doc fee for vehicles there shouldn't be any additional fees if you're a smart buyer. So with no documents to process or taxes to pay for a new dirt bike, unlike a car, you should be negotiating based on MSRP for OTD in certain states/situations. The whole setup and prep fee crap is nonsense and just profit cushion.

Yes, I never saw much of this back east but it is common in CA. I have managed to avoid any of these bullshit fees on the several bikes I've bought out here in Southern CA but I had to dig.

Right. Would buy a new bike every year or two when I was stationed in NJ, got some great deals below MSRP and right at invoice with my usual dealer. Trying to even get dealers here in AZ/CA area to go MSRP OTD is even pulling teeth. Currently deployed and found a leftover 17 CRF250R listed for $4995, was like cool what's OTD, he came back with $7936. Bunch of nonsense tacked in there. I'll be shopping out of state when I do buy another bike for sure.

Every retailer in the Seattle area tacks on $800 setup fee. Asked them why not just advertise the actual price since as a buyer it’s such a turnoff when you inevitably learn the “real” price and he responded they’d love to as it’s just as annoying for them but said if they did their phone would never ring unless all their competitors followed suit.

Yes, it’s bull shit. One does not simply go and buy a motorcycle (unless you are rich/dumb and don’t care), it takes weeks of calling around and hammering down on dealers. I got my 2017 CRF450 for $8550 cash. Took about a month of calling every dealer in SoCal and even one in Vegas. They all quoted me $9500+ OTD.

I hate those added fees but I feel for anyone that is in retail these days. If you are on a first name basis with your local dealer and he knows you spend money in his shop, I bet he would take the fees off. Don’t get me wrong, I’m trying my best not to pay extra but I understand why they are doing it.

Just listened to the Keefer podcast-test. All positives except the Bridgestones In certain conditions. He described the powerband just like the dyno data.

Of course, sounds like a fairly normal practice these days. But, some don't do that, if they did, I wouldn't buy from them based on the game. Just give me the OTD price and spare the secrecy. Almost like a bit and switch.

Saw one up close, they are sweet and sounds like winner in the 250F circles.

I went to a dealership trying to scoop up a 2 year old left over once. Guy came back with his number and i laughed. I asked him to break it down for me and there was a $900 loan orgination fee...... i was paying cash. He said he cant take that fee off its part of every sale. I walked out.
