It's not pretty but you have to agree that it gets attention and gets the message out. I'm sure the sells pitch demonstrating the slater skins helped in landing that sponsorship deal.

The saddest part of this thread is almost all of these outside sponsors have left the sport. They were willing to get in and then got out. (tobacco was regulated out.)

Yeah I heard a discussion about this on a podcast the other day , they mentioned it but no thoughts of why ,
They said on the podcast that over the years there have been many big outside sponsors that have came in but they always leave after 1 or 2 years , they never re new so thats a good question, why are they not seeing any return on investment, i mean i can see how it would be hard to track ,
But you think there would be some return, anyone have any thoughts on Why ?

Not to derail the thread but my question about outside sponsors is how did the Target Dungey deal come about? They had/still have pretty great real estate on his gloves, so obviously he's gettin good money, but he's never mentioned them! Obviously Dungey is a great choice for any sponsor but I wonder if they've shown interest in any other rider..
Just seems like a strange one and done kinda deal.

I Dont know How it came to be exactly, i would like to here more to so hopefully someone else knows, but i do know they are from Minnesota so that likely plays into it somehow.

He used to always thank target on every podium interview in 250s that I can remember h always puts his hands up fro the camera to see. Maybe even first year on 450s as well. I could be imagining things but I believe I heard along the way they stopped throwing as much $ at him, & pulled back slightly but not completely, on the sponsorship and that's when he stopped mentioning them but still ran the logo. I know they are from/based in MN as that is where Dunget is from also & so that's where it all came from when they were advertising more in extreme sports when he was 1st pro. Nate Adam's(I believe that's who it is) was & maybe still is, sponsored by target as well.

And not to mention the old 'oh I'm just adjusting my hat with my hand that has a massive logo on it'' haha
A that's right they do too (sponsor Adams) well that just brings more questions than answers haha

A lot of it is the powers that be make it very hard for any activation at the events unless you “sponsor” the promoters too. One of the most sought after demographics in marketing and yet no one seems to care??
