I am so disappointed and angry that our federal legislators would pass a bill of this type. How many kids that ride motorcycles or ATV's, "lick" ANYTHING on their machinery? How stupid is this bill!

Second, while I agree it's a stupid law in respect to motorcycles,
do you remember a few months back during the summer when kids were getting sick and
dying due to lead in toys from China and all you heard every day for weeks was about lead in shit from China?
That's what caused this.
So they made a simple law.
(paraphrase) "No toy or item for kids under 12 can be made, imported or sold if it has over 600ppm of lead"
Sounds simple enough, right?
Well, it has screwed over a BUNCH of industries.
Books have trace amounts of lead in ink...books were to be banned...no one thought about books having lead
(Books got an exception)
Antiques are now a problem, even though no one buys antique toys for kids, they are still toys and still
originally intended for kids....the antique industry is up in arms and about to lose billions in revenue.
If you think about it, there are a lot of industries that are wrongly caught up in this.
So, it's not just bikes and the law didn't target bikes.
It's just another well intended bill that got written up too fast with minimal thought and knee jerk reaction
due to public reaction to news reports.
Now, my one final comment....why did the industry wait until the final hour to notify the dealers and public?
Why didn't this start months ago when the bill was written or when signed by the former President?
Where was the AMA and the MIC then?
Was the industry asleep at the wheel?

Everyone's been calling and writing to their local legislators, right....?

They made a blanket law, anything for kids 12 and under.
Now, while I think motorcycles SHOULD have an exemption,
every other industry is also going to think they deserve an exemption,
which begs the question, "why them and not us?"
While I put my name on that petition, the proper battle here should
not be "exemption," but "postponement."
All of the various affected industries should be working together on
postponement of the entire law, and should do so for two reasons;
1. Reevaluation under the new administration and a new CPSC appointee
2. Allow industries to sell any existing inventory and re-tool to manufacture
under the new guidelines.
