I was wondering if the same race team structure exists in the USA, like in the Motocross GP's, where many team's have a star rider who is a title contender on a salary, bonus etc. The second team rider is of a lesser standard whose ride under the tent has been bought for him by rich parents or a personal sponsor/benifactor?

Can't blame the team managers in these challenging financial times for hiring someone who can bring a chunk of change to the table. It's been this way in most motorsport car racing formula's & championships for many years, inc F1.

Has there been any riders either past or present who got themselves a ride on the AMA circuit by what they could put into the team?

I've always wondered about Freise, but never knew if his family owned MotoConcepts or were just jillionaires?

Not uncommon in most motorsports to bring your own sponsorship $ or personal $ to the team.

I think he paid to be on ..... it's killing me, but I can't remember the name of that Yamaha team. All of the riders for that team pay for their rides. They chip in ;money to have mechanics and have the bikes hauled.

I dont think it happens that much here in the USA.If that were the case the rich kids [parents etc.] would just do their own team and have all the control to themselves...... hence the reason for earning a ride....Wink

Hunter Hewitt is a good example, his dad started the team also the Tedder's doing their own deal, makes sense to just do that instead of contributing to a team you have no control over.

Yep, Jeff Alessi was paying $5000.00 per race to have his spot in the rig, bike, mech. from what I rememberIf you want to race in the big leagues, it would cost more than that to do it yourself. Bargain of sorts????Sad

I personally know a local kid who was supported by a business owner who was very into motocross. The business owner looked in to starting his own professional team but decided after crunching the numbers to just anti up to a team for a ride for the local kid. I heard the number was $150k and this was just a few years ago.

It's when Mike was on Team Suzuki. It had it's own thread here, I believe Jeff might have even participated in it as he was on here from time to time. Good kid, he and Mike both. Very courteous to and appreciative of their fans.

That was the same summer that Townley was out and Honda was looking at bringing Albertson or Jeff Alessi on as the fill in.
