Hi Guys.
Last thursday I had a mole removed and it's been diagnosed as a melanoma.
The Doctor says it's in the first layer of skin and I will be ok but I have to have a large chunk cut out of my side tomorrow to increase the margins.
I know some of you have dealt with this stuff, but please, go and get a skin check. I've never been burnt where this mole was, on my rib cage under my arm.
Don't go to a Doctor. Go to a specialist. It might save your life.

Found out a school mate I played footy and rode bikes with passed away from skin cancer.
Get checked myself every 6-12 months and being 70’s Nth beaches kid I’ve had my fair share of spots (7) cut out of me.
As the ad says, “slip slop slap”, and get regular check ups.

I get a regular checkup at the VA as a Vietnam veteran exposed to Agent Orange. Two bouts with prostate cancer and I had surgery and radiation. Then a small mole was found on my arm a few years ago. It was only about the size of a pencil eraser and they just sliced it off. Two weeks later, they called and said it was a melanoma and they needed to remove a little more. They did, about a credit card size piece of meat was removed and down about 3/4 inch into my arm. The margins they said. I have to get a full body check every six months now. So far, so good. Glad they caught yours early. Don't screw around, get shit checked out.
Also, check into medical MJ as a treatment option. Rick Simpson is a pioneer in the field and treated his own skin cancer with oil.
This month in 2015, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the ripe old age of 40! This disease usually effects old white guys in their 70s, but the oncologist explained it was probably exposure to chemicals as a scientist in my job, so if you work around solvents fuels etc get straight down the doctors if your piss looks a funny color.
It took two surgeries to get rid of that inch size tumor, and I will leave it to everyone's imagination how they do those surgeries and how they get chemo to where it's needed. Analysis revealed that if the tumor had penetrated a few layers of cells deeper, there is a 50% chance I wouldn't be typing this email.
In the world's greatest irony, most of my working life is dedicated to inventing new cancer drugs.
Do as the OP suggests.
In all seriousness I hope you’re all good
Not something I expected to ever hear! I would have asked her out if I wasn't married...

I say go to a specialist because i've had the experience of a GP telling me that "that's a normal mole" that ended up not being... Dermatologist or Skin specialist will examine you and if you're high risk you should seek out a mole-mapping service – every 6 months, (will now be 3 months) I go and have a full body photo taken that is mapped to a 3D model, and they take super hi-res photos of every mole on my body (450+)... this maps changes in moles, and importantly, the full body photo captures anything new.
That's what has saved me. This mole wasn't there 6 months ago.
Go and get checked, please. It doesn't take long and the stories above tell you it's more common than you think.
If I remember correctly both Jeff Ward and Travis Preston both had bouts with skin cancer.
I've seen Wardy, O'Show and RC post over the years about it... didn't know Travis though. Best thing you can do is catch the shit early!
