With MXA proclaiming the GYTR kit is the absolute best, Ping on the rooftops screaming about the PC engine he has (RV's 125 ride in 2019), how does one choose what direction to go in?

I love the stock powerband, but a touch more power and some more over rev would help carry my plus sized body a bit easier. I no longer race other than VMX and yes, I have more cc's in my 2019 FC 350 to move me along. So, this is all about fun, and not just outright HP numbers.

But unless you are dead, there is nothing like a 125 at full song (groan in my case) to make you heart fill with glee.

Anybody have real world feedback with real world dollars that might help me sort this out?

Call or email Tom Morgan. You won’t be disappointed. Ask him what he offers and tell him what you’re looking for. He has porting, long rod kits, 151 strokers on and on for the yz.

I had him port and set up for t2 my yz125. For only about $400 the difference is absolutely amazing. Stock bore.

I had PC port mine a year or two ago. It rips, but it’s still a 125

Tom Morgan, been hearing some good things about his engine work.
Took him off my radar in 1989 when he said he could fix my CR 250 forks and they were worse than stock after I got them back. And that would seem impossible if you ever raced with the stock 1989 CR 250 fork.
I will give him a call too.
I do want to keep my bike a 125. I have no interest in boring or long stroking this engine.

He's really an engine guy... McAndrews did the suspension work at KAW. Before starting Factory connection.

And there was no fixing the 89 CR250 forks. Sad they were awful and would deflect off every bump and send you sideways.

R&D Racing is great with small-bores!

Have heard good things about TMR as well. PC providing only two options (race fuel or pump) doesn't work for me, but would consider them reputable as well. Call around and see who can have it back with quickest turnaround. If tuners are slammed like new bikes sales and accessories, that may impact your decision as well.

R&D is the only place you need to call. Dean can build to suit your needs/wants...... His work, and legacy, are second to nobody.

Would bud racing be able to do anything? They have been racing the 125s in the GP's for years now, that's a lot of constant development at the highest level.

I need to apologize to all, including and especially Tom Morgan. Clearly the CRS is at the highest levels.
Tom Morgan never worked on my suspension, it was Mike McAndrews. For some reason, I completely lost my mind.
Sorry to all.

Before you have the cylinder ported try machining the head to the correct squish and add a HGS pipe . I did these mods to my 2018 yz125 on a recommendation and felt the bike was good enough and decided not to have it ported or go big bore 144. The head work cleans up the bottom end and the pipe adds a lot of mid and top . With these mods the motor retains it's crisp user friendly character that made me choose the yz over the ktm 125 sx. If you still want more top end you can port the cylinder and the pipe and head will work great with it.

I have the gytr kit on my boys race bike. He says it has a lot more rev and pulls way harder. He says it a totally different bike motor wise. It has been reliable and was easy to install. Plus it looks sick and is extreme well made. I just liked how all the trick goodies came in one box.

It has been suggested many times. But I love the Yamaha (I love my Husqvarna FC 350 too) .
I have about $3000 in the Yamaha and it is the best bang for the money.
I do like the idea of a 150, but I certainly would want to ride one first.

So, i was able to secure a Honda support ride in 1989 (Honda was handing these out like a perv in a blacked out van hands out candy) and I spent more time and money trying to get those stupid forks to work. If I did not sell off my 1986 CR 250, I would have switched forks.
Fast forward to the Twenty first century and the VMX group I was racing with opened up a class up to 1989. I went looking for a 1989 CR 250 as I loved that bike (hated the forks) and wanted to take that trip back in time.
Found an awesome low hour bike.
Well, the forks were incredible. Now, I know that sounds insane Lostboy, but I was not the only one to say this. Someone, somehow fixed those shit stick and they were flat out perfect.
After quite a few seasons, a VMX buddy wanted the bike, I sold it with the caveat he gives me first shot if he sells it. Well, he hated the forks and had them revalved, now I hated them. Another buddy approached me and wanted to buy the bike, same deal. Now it came back to me with 2007 CRF 250 forks. I need to ride this bike soon.

I like this

Thank you.

Where did you get your HGS pipe from?

Who milled the head, and to what spec?

Thank you. I really appreciate your feedback.

Between you, Johnny Ringo, alien, YZ133rider, I did receive the real world feedback I asked for.
I did get quite a few referrals, and this will give me some more to think about.

Thank you all that posted.

Before going back to Suzuki's, I had two yz 125 and I tried many racing parts.
Gytr must works fine but it's expensive.
For a cheap cost, you can try this :
Vhm head with 100 c dome
Vforce 4
Hgs pipe and silencer (bud racing USA sells it)
bored mikuni to 40mm
Gytr ignition flywheel
It gonna cost you way less than gytr kit and you're gonna have a great and strong motor.
(I had 4 different cylinder head, 6 different pipes, two carbs and 3 different cdi, so I tested many parts)

The 125sx is a better bike in my opinion. Not that he wants a ktm or a 150.

Sounds Great, thx. I like to bolt on 1st, then port to match. The bolt on increases. What did the vortex ignition improve? And did you test a Bill,s pipe ? Thx

I know PC is updating their YZ 125 Spec. The cylinder and head are finalized. Just working on an updated pipe.

Maybe. I was just throwing it out there because I think it's more reliable than a hopped up 125....and to stir the pot a little...if I'm being honest

Sweet, great to hear PC is working on developing the engine yet. All we want is a super Quick responding engine with a super wide and strong mid range with over rev way on top. Rip out out of corners and hyper click gears, the Ktm shouldn’t be able to run it down on the straights. If it does just pass,em in the next corner.

38mm Keihin carb & STIC Metering block. This will do more than any other mod. I run them on all our two strokes & have a good buddy who tried them on his YZ125. The stock YZ125 with STIC was so much better than his big bore 144 he bought another......We have had same results on our TC125's stock with carb vs fully built...........

Bills are hard to find in Europe and must be similar to pro circuit and fmf. I didn't try vortex, I tried jd racing and rinaldi cdi. More rpm for the rinaldi but for me the heavier flywheel is more impressive than an aftermarket cdi.
Gytr pipe seems to be made by hgs, the silencer is made by messico.
Middle inertia vhm crank works well too.

What did the STIC and Keihin do for the YZ125? Did it lose any of the bottom to mid?

It will make it pull from much lower & over-rev like crazy. My kid put it best -"Makes it a 4-stroke 2-stroke" as you end up with a power curve similar to a 250f. Sounds crazy but it works.

There are some caveats like making sure your engine is running strong before you put it on. If you decide to run oxy fuels baseline jetting won't usually work which is where some of the tuning complaints come from if you google it. That said, every single person in our circle that has bought one or tried one of our bikes with one has been amazed. For $120 for a carb of Ebay + $300 for insert there is no other mod that will come close. I've bought 6 personally. Bonus is you can run a basically stock motor & regular fuel for reliability.......
