I always thought about getting impaled when riding in the woods.

There's just nothing you can do to protect against this sort of freak thing. I get upset when the track builders don't trim branches flush with the tree trunk. When they leave a 6-10 inch angle cut spike sticking out. My other big one is when that 5'10" guy rides the track standing up and declares it good but when us 6'4" guys stand up we get our heads taken off.

We had a rider killed on Fort Hood years ago by being impaled through the chest. It does and can happen.

Not as bad as this video but I took a branch to the arm pit once...Tried lifting my arm to miss it. Didn't feel good and still have the scar 10 years later.

I cross rutted once hauling the mail down some trails. Landed on a downed cedar tree that was laying beside the trail. Luckily, just a flesh wound.
