So you have to qualify for the SX class but not for the SX class outdoors? It all makes perfect sense why they do it. Hell you can ride a 450 outdoors and be posting top 10's and that does not qualify you for the sx class.

SX outdoors?

I assume you mean the 450 class, outdoors....the "Motocross" class

Actually, it would because points earned in the 450's outdoors can earn your SX endorsement

Why?

It's pro road racing.[/quote:1ev23my5]

The only way i could see it being different is the safety factor. In MX the guys on 250Fs and 450Fs can post just about the same lap times, basically the 250Fs are going just as fast as the big bikes, they are just two different styles of doing it. this has a lot to do with the track design though, most mx tracks are not open enough to allow the 450s to max out on the straights. Now in motogp, that is a pure HP sport when compared to mx, how many times did we see Rossi loose in 07 based on the fact that his Yamaha would get killed by that Ducati of Stoner's down the straights, not to say that Stoner isnt extremely talented, but we did witness Rossi be just as fast through the turns in some races only to be passed every lap on the long straights. Anyway back to the point, showing up and racing the 125cc class on a street bike is a heck of a lot different than showing up and racing an 800cc monster capable of something like 300km/h. That is just nuts if you ask me. So i could see why in street bike racing they would want riders to graduate from one class to the next. But in motocross? I don't see it, yes the 450s require a different technique, but any privateer capable of qualifying for a pro race on a 250F, can surely ride a 450 quite fine. Just to add one more point how motogp may be different; it requires so much money compared to mx that you probably couldn't do it as a privateer. And now to save myself if none of this made sense, its monday, sorry i got the blues.

[quote="flarider":3kumdssv]The new system is right, but it is new.
It needs time to cycle riders through it.
The AMA did make concessions on it this year, by allowing west lites riders to race big bikes, and some will do so when ready.
There are also a lot of riders eligible to race SX, but have chosen to race other things.

and I call 100% bullshit on this;
[quote:3kumdssv]"...One was a former125 racer that was in the hunt for a championship a number of years back, last year he was denied entry into the 450 class."[/quote:3kumdssv]

Riders who have previously raced SX and made night shows were grandfathered in, they do not have to earn an endorsement.
Something else was up, but it wasn't eligibility[/quote:3kumdssv]

It was Casey Johnson...

Yup

I remember that and he had sat out so long they didn't concider him to be endorsed to race SX any more. Sounds good to me

I am surprised, but it does make sense.
Been a long time for him
Gotta go with 500guy on it
Not sure where they draw the line though, at how many years.
